    Tailgating

So many years ago, my driving instructor a Police instructor making extra at the weekends instilled in me that the danger to yourself always comes from behind, what's in front is mostly under your control. I of course as a seventeen year old interpreted this as on a motorway drive as fast as you can maintaining your braking distance with the car in front , but ensuring that car behind just can't get too close. Of course these days *cough* at 50 I just pull over and let them pass. But the number of drivers who just don't use their mirrors is unbelievable !

That's a bit of a trek by cab.
  4. UPDATE In general I am pleased with the car although seeing Jaguar XF's on the road does fill me with a sense of loss and grief, but even if I was to have another one it wouldn't be the 3ltr 250bhp model anyway - too many points ! The great thing about the 520d is the fuel economy this has blown me away, I'm saving a small fortune, the ride quality is solid and comfortable instruments controls all easy to read and use however I have lost a bit of thrill in the actual driving but as mentioned I need to calm down a bit anyway. Late last June I took the car on a road trip that was planned to be a near 3k mile 1 week drive from Calais to the Med seashore then along the coast up the Italian Alps to Turin across the French side over a few days towards Grenoble then heading north and home to Wales. Yeh I knew I would be spending a long time driving, just don;t tell the Mrs Unfortunate, we only made 600miles before the car had a sudden on motorway power loss leaving a trail of smoke behind like some 1980's power ballad pop video. After a few hours and after the French motorway people deposited us in the middle of nowhere BMW Warranty came up trumps and arranged and paid for hotel for that very night along with a hire car to pick up the following day after a local BMW Main Dealer recovered the car. The dealer had the car for a week whilst we continued the planned trip , although now much curtailed in a Toyota Hybrid of some sort. Not exactly the road trip experience I had planned ! Anyway cut to the chase, the issue with the car was a faulty 'Inlet Manifold' , well I suspect I was one of those people or car that has prompted the recent recall Mines being done in a couple of weeks, so to conclude am I happy with the BMW 520 M Sport 2016, to be honest I think I value the BMW Warranty and customer service a lot more than I DO THE ACTUAL CAR.

    BMW 268,000 vehicles Recall

UPDATE I'm booked in for Nov 10th but no courtesy car although they did offer me an Enterprise hire @25 quid a day. Not very impressed. But as they say it's only going to be with them one day then that's not a huge issue.

    BMW 268,000 vehicles Recall

Great info and by the sound of it related to my loss of coolant about a 1ltr every 400 miles that I was saving for the next scheduled service !! BTW that's actually about every six weeks for me !

    BMW 268,000 vehicles Recall

Interesting, last summer late June, I was driving south of Paris when I had a sudden power loss 520d (2016) and smoke coming from underneath the car mostly from what appeared underneath the passenger door. Long story but eventually the car was taken to a French BMW main dealer for investigation and repair under warranty. There was a bit of a language barrier but from what I could understand the issue was the 'inlet manifold' and replacement of the EGR. I didn't inquire further as the car a week later was back on the road and I would visit my local dealer once I got home, I assumed they would have all the details on the computer. On return they didn't have any details , they suggested maybe it would be added later. UPDATE Just waiting for Synter to call me back as I need a replacement car for the week. Looking like the first week in Dec.
  8. I part ex'd the old Jag to a national 'Car Shop' kinda place, I knew and they knew there was an engine fault, over 2.5k revs 'Restricted Performance' would appear. Probably Turbo Issue. A month later the car turns up in east London , on a car lot twice the price I got for it, fair enough not my problem nor my issue, the new owner contacts me from all the documentation bills invoices etc and asks me if there was anything wrong with it. The issue above still exists ! I hope he gets it sorted under the warranty they gave him or his money back, on his test drive on busy East London streets he didn't go above 2.5k revs, someone somewhere made 3k out of that car by giving it a shine.

    Inclusive Servicing

Using the BMW Website it tells me :- CONGRATULATIONS YOUR BMW HAS SERVICE INCLUSIVE! Your BMW is covered by BMW Service Inclusive which lasts for 5 years or 60,000 miles (whichever occurs first) and covers the cost of your vehicle’s comprehensive servicing requirements. Your BMW may also be covered by MOT Protect. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now , I bought this car at a car supermarket 16 plate 23,000 miles with FSH, they obviously were not aware of this as they didn't mention it. But I thought hang on a minute and contacted my local Main Dealer via their online chat thing, but they said 3 years or 100,000 miles ? I'm confused but also very pleased either way , however who should I believe ?
  11. Well I'm getting on a bit, 50 less bhp I'm not really noticing , I'm getting some very encouraging MPG too. Little things I will miss. Folding back seats, electric folding side mirrors and I've been looking like a right prat trying to open the drivers door by just walking up to it with the fob in my pocket !

    Silly question (Probably)

Just sent it and many thanks
  13. I've done just under a 100 miles, the previous car was 3ltr so I can't really compare on performance (yet), first impressions I love it although I didn't fall out of love with the XF it just came to a natural conclusion on age and not just the car. I'm really looking forward to the next few months (like a big kid really)
  14. I bought a 520d over the weekend, I work away from home and meant to bring my VIN number with me to gain the 'buildsheet' the car is still under BMW warranty so the 'warranty' website wond give it to me........any idea, I did search the forum without any result so apologies if I'm being an annoying impatient Newbie
