    Caravan Towing - Stability Control.

Hi there I have the same systems fitted to my vehicle and caravan with no issues. If the car stability is triggered you get warning lamps on the dash. With Alko it is similar but difficult to monitor (as the light is fitted to the caravan) the Alko system as im sure you are aware is quite basic in as much when heavy swaying is detected it applies the caravan brakes to straighten the outfit. This will be felt by quite a sharp tug on the vehicle. It’s most likely that it just feels different or loading of the caravan and noweweight need to modified to get the loading correct. I personally think the G31 makes an excellent row car, I hope you get it resolved.

    Retrofit Towbar

Hi there the parts are available when I was researching my local BMW garage confirmed they could retrofit for wait for it ......... £2600!!! So clearly the parts are available. I went for factory fitted as it was the best option for me at the time. There is also the annoying German brand car issue that doesn’t wire up the full 13 pins of the electrics so you have to buy an additional kit if you are using to tow a caravan and want fridge electrics etc. Given what main dealers charge for labour it may be possible to source parts only considerably cheaper. ... good luck

    Hard wiring dashcam, F31

Sounds like you are nearly there:) I managed to get the wire down without removing panels I eased it down behind the top of the a pillar panel then pulled back the door seal and fed the wire down that way. At the bottom near the fuse as you suggest there is a natural gap that can be used. Pleased to say it worked well for me with no rattles or lose panels

    Information messages

Hello Alan, Sorry to hear you are having problems there. In terms of fault finding it would be useful to remove the recent connections for the Dashcam to restore the car back to standard and establish whether this resolves the fault issue. If this does refit the dash cam checking all connections and test again. One common mistake that people make if using a piggy back fuse connector is that they fail to install two fuses in the carrier, One fuse protects the existing circuit and one the newly installed item. Good luck Paul

Hi Alan, you are definately in the correct location. with regards to the earth point any point that is connected to the bodywork will work. the point I used is just behind that grey panel at the top of the pic. I managed to leave the speaker connected and just ease it aside. Good luck

    Hard wiring dashcam, F31

Alan, Good Morning. When you remove the panel to access the fuse box on the drivers side have a look underneath ( a bit of an athletic backflip is required to lay in the footwell to loo upwards!!). Roughly in line with the accelerator, but coming back towards the centre of the car you will find a rectangular box (airbag for legs I think!!) I used a spade connector on the mounting bolt which has a good connection with the bodywork. There is no interference with the integrity of the airbag, and you only need to slacken it by a couple of turns to get the connector in. Hope this helps

    Hard wiring dashcam, F31

Hi Alan, on the side closest to the centre the panel is connected to the small vertical section which descends towards the carpet. This simply unclips with a gentle tug. The fuse position I provided powers up on unlock and powers down approx 5 mins after locking.

G31 Dash Cam Install (in less than an hour)

No problems it’s a Transcend 220, there are plenty of good ones out there. It’s not the smallest on the market but fits nicely behind the mirror so can’t be seen when driving.
  11. Afternoon Everyone this is my first post so here we go...... Ive just installed a dash cam into my G31 and hardwired it into the front offside fusebox. The install was very easy using a piggy back fuse holder and all the wiring is concealed. The fuse i used was F46, which powers down approx 5 minutes after locking the car. The wire was routed under the mirror housing (no need to remove) then across the drivers side headlining and down the A-pillar before terminating at the fusebox. Hope this helps anyone else looking to do the same. Thanks Paul
