  1. E39 540i Sport - Delivery at Last!

Looks great inside, I will have a 540i one day ! The brushed ally trim set is available cheap on Ebay, quite easy to change, most of it just pops off. Look here. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-BMW-E39-5-series-INTERIOR-ALUMINIUM-TRIM-SET-RHD-8pcs/192324921043?hash=item2cc77566d3:g:7jAAAOSwWsdZjVq5 Regarding the Android head unit, I am a big fan of these from AudioTech Direct in N. Wales, I have one in my Focus for over a year and they are superb. Customer service from ATD is spot on. I have just ordered this latest Android 8 unit for my 525i Sport. Will be delivered in a day or two and will be going straight in the car, will let you know if there any problems. The excellent Bluetooth and Torque app for OBD2 diagnostics is the big thing for me. A nice touch is the settings for the start up screen, you can choose the 'BMW' or the 'M' logo so it all looks OEM. Huge improvement in CD & radio sound quality as well. Full integration with on board Canbus is standard. https://audiotechdirect.com/pba-bm5839b-android-8-after-market-radio-for-bmw-e39-e53/ Nice clear interior shots, what camera are you using ?
  2. E39 540i Sport - Delivery at Last!

Each to their own of course but in my humble opinion 17in Style 66 suit the car perfectly. I like the look of 16in style 50's on the SE, they certainly don't look lost on the car. Personally, I hate this current trend of shoving big wheels on everything but that's just me being a grumpy old fart. I was privy to a viewing of a proto of the new Aston Martin DBX last week with it's 22in wheels, I was asked what I thought of it, I said it looked like a frickin crop sprayer, they didn't like that ! Well they did ask !
  3. E39 540i Sport - Delivery at Last!

Congratulations ! Lovely looking car. Don't ruin it with big Carlos Fandango wheels & elastic bands for tyres. Nothing beats the look of a clean well polished un-molested E39 Sport on 66's. Enjoy the car. Count the times you catch yourself looking back at it as you walk away after parking.

Looking for a favour from owners of 2000 to 2003. E39. 520i. 525i. 530i. SE. Petrol. Auto. Saloon. With OE suspension. Just researching front & rear suspension springs for a summer project. Looking for some kind owners of the above SE spec cars with original suspension to take a look under the front & rear wheel arches and let me know the colour of the 2 or 3 paint dabs on the coil springs ? will probably need a wipe for accuracy as some of the colour coding is close. Been trying to research this on the net but no luck. Thanks. Buster.

Thanks for posting pics, thats confused me ! According to the info I have gathered so far, the early 520i SE had a redish brown paint code and the 525i & 530i SE had yellow front & rear.

Interesting, blue marks are normaly sport springs, have you lowered or modified it ?
  7. Anyone identify this ?

I acquired this last week from a house clearance, no idea what it's off ? Brand new and unused fitted with Michelin 225/45/17 Pilot SX tyre. Anyone know what it's off ? What's it worth ?

Thanks, they are paint dabs, usually 2 or 3. This is the colour code for the tensile strength of the spring, can you check the rear, should be able to see through the gap, spring might need a wipe, cheers.
  9. Anyone identify this ?

Its brand new, never been fitted to a car.
  10. Anyone identify this ?

Thanks Duncan, what is the best M3 owners forum to advertise this on ?

  12. Mr FIX9H Ceramic coating

Time soon to give my pride & joy a good polish for the summer. This stuff seems to be getting very good reviews, anyone tried it ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anti-scratch-Detailing-Glasscoat-Motocycle-Hydrophobic/dp/B075GFYZQQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1523374575&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=mr+fix+9h+ceramic+coating&psc=1
  13. The rear struts are being changed soon so the back seat and rear parcel shelf is coming out to get access to the strut top mounts. While I am at it, I fancy upgrading the parcel shelf speakers for something the same size but with better bass. Any recommendations ? Due to an old Rugby shoulder injury, I have difficulty turning to look while reversing so while I am back there achieving, I am thinking of installing a discrete rear camera in preparation for connecting up to a new Android head unit I will be shoving in later. A neat instal into the headlining rear edge above the center headrest, something like this ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Reversing-Parking-Assiatance-Waterproof/dp/B013AUMV12/ref=sr_1_61?ie=UTF8&qid=1522839723&sr=8-61&keywords=Wireless+reversing+camera Or this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Votteo-Definition-Universal-Parking-Waterproof-Mushroom-Style/dp/B01N2YB08Q/ref=sr_1_135?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522841469&sr=1-135&keywords=reversing+camera Or this sitting the shelf on top of the center brake light hump. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rover®-Universal-Backup-Camera-Waterproof/dp/B0725ZTLWP/ref=sr_1_200_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522841716&sr=1-200-spons&keywords=reversing%2Bcamera&th=1 And this wireless kit to save running wires. (Apart from a power wire to the reversing light) https://www.amazon.co.uk/CIpotZIZ-Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver-Reversing/dp/B01LNMORNY/ref=sr_1_35?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522841066&sr=1-35&keywords=reversing+camera Or possibly this into the center of the rear bumper between the PDC sensors but I dont really want to spoil the nice aesthetics of the car. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Backup-Camera-Universal-Parking-Vehicle/dp/B01GYSJN3G/ref=sr_1_120?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522841236&sr=1-120&keywords=reversing+camera There are other options to fit one incorporated into the number plate light but again it might spoil the look. Anyone done something similar to a saloon ?

Can anyone confirm if taking a power feed for a reversing cam off the reversing light power wire will bring up a dash warning ?
  15. Mr FIX9H Ceramic coating

Thanks for the advice but at £54 for the Car Pro Quartz stuff is a bit steep ! Any more recommendations for good stuff and reasonably priced ? Post links if you can. Cheers.
  16. Looking for tips on good touch up spray paint. Got some new PDC sensors on the way that will need painting in Titan silver. Was going to stay safe and get the expensive BMW stuff but has anyone been impressed with a good match with a cheaper brand ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/BMW-Genuine-Silver-Metallic-51911052566/dp/B00MA8MPQW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522944207&sr=8-1&keywords=BMW+spray+paint+titan+silver
  17. Low Mileage e39 530i SE - Whats it worth?

Looks very nice indeed, if it was manual I would be on my way ! just curious, what size wheels & tyres are on it ?

Might just leave them unpainted and see how it looks.

Thanks Dennis, good info, can you post some links to the gear you recommend ?

How about this for an idea ? I found a round flush fit cam which is 20.5mm, a tad smaller than the PDC sensor. One of my sensors is a bit corroded and needs replacing anyway, what if I replace it with a cam and paint the other silver coloured but good sensor black to match? Not sure if the PDC system will work with one sensor out ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raysell-Waterproof-Vision-Reversing-Parking/dp/B01C2GJ3YI/ref=sr_1_57?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522860204&sr=1-57&keywords=reversing+camera

This is my diffuser which was, sadly, cut for a tow bar which has now come off. I have another good diffuser on the way so now I am wondering if I could make a square recessed housing in the cut out to accommodate a flush fitting circular camera. The other thought I had was to fit the circular flush fit cam into the square pop out panel that covers the towing eye fitting.

Thanks Marc, I know what you mean with the Chinese head unit, I put one in my Focus and there was a nice improvement in sound and you can tweak it to your liking with the equaliser. I was thinking that there may be better speakers that are popular with owners that I could fit while I've got it stripped out. I'm not really clued up on reversing cameras so I was wondering if it could be set up inside to allow for the length of the boot when reversing up to something so the warning tone goes constant when approx 2 feet away from an object ? If not, it will have to go outside, maybe on the diffuser but I didn't want to drill anything. Maybe a boot handle or number plate light one but I dont like the look of those. I saw a number plate one on a E39 saloon a few days ago and my eye was drawn straight to it because it looked odd. This handle one is not too bad. Or this one
  23. I'm sure its been discussed before but looking to improve the standard headlights on mine. I read somewhere that Osram Nightbreaker Laser bulbs are the way forward ? Would you chaps agree or can you recommend something better that won't trigger a warning on the dash ?

Been in there a few times but wasn't thinking about headlamp bulbs etc. Made my day finding this ! Will do on the bulbs if they are not already in there !

Well well, it seems I jumped the gun, went to check the bulbs today and it seems my car has OEM Xenons so did not disturb !
