  1. Has anyone had any experience with installing an Android system in lieu of the I drive CCC? I have seen the one at the link below and am tempted, but have a few questions for anyone who has used one. 1/how easy are they to install? This claims 30 mins plug & play. 2/Do I still have full functionality of the I drive controller and steering wheel controls? 3/How easy is the navigation system to update and how do you go about this? Any advice is welcomed! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232480158939

    E60 CCC Android system upgrade

I went to try and get one, I used the discount code 'PRESENTS' i had been sent for the 15% off on Ebay and it said at checkout that it wasnt eligible.
  3. Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice, I have just had an annoying 'airbag/restraint fault' warning come up again (3rd time in a year) i have coincidently had the car in the garage for other work the previous times that it has come up and they had been doing diagnostics anyway and identified the fault as caused by some sort of minor variance in the voltage of one of the airbags that wouldnt affect the operation of the system and cleared it for me at no additional charge to the work already being done. I dont really fancy taking it back in and paying £40 for a diagnostic and fault clear alone, I would rather invest in some kit myself so I want to get something for clearing faults and doing basic diagnostics. I dont really know where to start so Im looking for some reccomendations. I have heard people mention the Carly and various other DIS systems and I have found quite a few just by googling and they are readily available but I would preffer to go on a solid reccomendation from someone on here who has actually used the kit and can point me in the right direction.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Cleared a really annoying restraint/airbag system fault that was doing my head in. Big thanks to @Deviant for the reccomendation to try the Carista app with my OBD2 module, got it on a free 7 day trial too so never cost me anything!! If I remermber to cancel it before next week anyway!

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

Was sitting frustrated so I downloaded the free trial of Carista and success!!! Fault is cleared and the annoying in your face error is gone!! Although did find a whole plethora of other errors that have not pinged anything on the idrive! But @Deviant thanks for the reccomendation, think its the first thing I have ever tried to do to the E60 that has gone smoothly!!

Dug it out and just tried it with Torqe there, no joy couldnt find the fault. Will try again tomorrow with thoae other apps you mentioned, failing that I just found someone selling a C110 on ebay for a decent price.

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

I have a cheap OBD2 bluetooth module in the garage somewhere that I bought to try and clear some ABS fault codes on my old Passat a while back using the Torque Pro app but it was pretty useless. Was good for getting live readings from the engine but could only read and clear engine faults, nothing else would show up (ABS and TPS faults didnt anyway), havnt used it since. Never thought about trying it for this though, might dig it out and give it a go, certainly cant hurt to try.

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

My budget was ~£50, my main goal from any system is to be able to clear faults myself. I would preffer something fairly straight forward and easy to use rather than getting properly into the weeds of code etc, but not opposed to it if thats the only way!

bmw e60 530d re paint boot lid

Yeah im carbon black too, I did a partial respray on my front bumper where I scuffed it and it came out pretty well. I have also fully resprayed a set of motorcycle fairings with and got a good result, although all the parts I have done are all plastic so a bit easier than metal!! Dont have a picture of the bumper I did but the pic attatched of my bike (any excuse to show it off! Lol) shows the end result. Just make sure you get a decent quality colour matched paint and some good bodyshop laquer, take your time with the prep, dont rush anything and it can be done. A diy job with a spray can is obviously never going to match the quality of a professional job, but I got a pretty decent result.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Just got a new G30 530D M Sport as my hire car for the next couple of days!! Have to say, very impressed, very nice to drive, and whilst I love my E60 this is something else!! Probably my only complaint, the new Idrive is a nightmare to get around compared to the CCC! Its like flying the bloody space shuttle with the ammount of knobs and buttons!! If only I had a spare 45k lying around I would maybe treat myself!!
  15. Considering throwing on my winter wheels this tommorow as my rear summer tires are almost done they have about 2mm left all round so will probably get another couple of weeks out of them if needs be before I need to change (will be replacing them for next year in any case!). My question is that Im booked in for a 4 wheel laser alignment tomorrow and wondering if there is any benefit in keeping my 18" wheels with my summer tyres on or putting on my 16" winters before it gets done? Is swapping the wheels post an alignment going to throw things out at all? Curious what everyones thoights are? Also Just wondering when everyone else usually swaps out summers for winters?I'm thinking its still a bit early/warm as its still hovering around 10 degrees here even in the mornings.

    Winter tires/wheel alignment

Just had it in for the alignmnet, bit the bullet and just put my winter setup on! After speaking to the guy, he checked the rear tyres again and they were literally on the legal limit and he said that it wouldnt throw off the alignment any so on they went!!

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

4 wheel alignmnet take 2!!! Took it in a few weeks ago and the guy noticed my rear toe in on the passenger side had the wrong type bolt holding it together, it had been bodged with a standard hex nut/bolt at some point in the past for one reason or another. So got half an alignment done before he got to that part!! Anyway back today and the correct bolts were fitted and full alignment done! Wasnt toi far out, but a fair bit of it was tweeked last time. Also bit the bullet and put on my winter wheels, mostly because my rear summer tyres were looking a little bald! Wont be buying Goodyear Eagle asymetric 3s again thats for sure, barely got 12000 miles over 7 months out of them on the rear.

    Winter tires/wheel alignment

I believe the winter wheels I have came off a 3 series of some variety, and the tyres are BMW branded dunlop winter sports. I had them on last year/earlier this year and they fitted fine, my mate checked the balancing etc and they are all good (well at least they were when they went on last year!) I purpousley wanted smaller wheels for my winter setup which is why I went for 16". Going to leave the summers on for the next 2 weeks as Im only going to be using the car a handfull of times, will see what temperature is like then and probably stick them on. Probably just because the skinflint in me wants to get every drop of life out of them before I ditch them!!

    Winter tires/wheel alignment

Was thinking it was still a tad warm, might try and squeeze a couple more weeks out of them!! Ive got a buddy that runs a garage and he says about £15 is standard to change a tyre out but he luckily does mates rates for significantly less!! Glad I got seperate wheels though, just makes it much easier (and cheaper!) To switch. I managed to get a decent deal on Ebay for my winter setup lats year. I only paid £120 for a set of 4 16" steel wheels with pretty much new dunlop wintersport run flats and genuine BMW wheel trims.

Turns out it was just a crap connector on the new LED light, just put a bit of electric tape round it to hold it together and all is well! No more errors!

What is the policy on the headlamp washers? I thought it was just if your car had them fitted they had to work? I didnt think it was anyrhing to do with the year.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

First run to work with mine fitted this morning, randomly the left hand one kept coming up as bulb failed on the idrive but clearing after a couple of minutes however it was definetly still on as I could see the reflection in the car infront when I was stopped in traffic. Given the right hand side never came up as a fault I suspect that the resistor may just be loose so will have a look tonight, hopefully it will ve an easy fix otherwise im going to need to learn to code!!!

Yeah from my understanding by the letter of the law a car with an aftermarket HID conversion wont pass tge new MOT. Luckily a family friend does my MOTs so can probably be persuaded to turn a blind eye!!
