    Replacing front fogs

I managed to do mine by sliding out the main headlight unit and reaching down inside the bumper to the fog light, I was then able to swap out the bulb by touch. A bit fiddly but a damn sight easier and quicker than jacking up and removing the wheel etc.

    1500 rpm judder

I had this exact same problem about this time last year with the judder and rev jumping at 1500rpm. Was indeed my torque converter. Got it rebuilt by a ZF specialist and its good as new now, the repair/rebuild guaranteed for life too!
  3. Has anyone had any experience with installing an Android system in lieu of the I drive CCC? I have seen the one at the link below and am tempted, but have a few questions for anyone who has used one. 1/how easy are they to install? This claims 30 mins plug & play. 2/Do I still have full functionality of the I drive controller and steering wheel controls? 3/How easy is the navigation system to update and how do you go about this? Any advice is welcomed! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232480158939

    Discs / pads / sensors - cost?

Agree with d_a_n your hub and calipers will be sized/spaced for the discs that were fitted previously sonyou will need to buy those specified for your car. When I did my front ones Eurocar parts gave me the smaller 310mm discs instead of the 324mm ones for my 520D by mistake, I never even realised until I tried fitting one, it wouldnt even fit correctly onto the hub had to go back and change them.

    Discs / pads / sensors - cost?

Keep an eye on Euro car parts, you can get Brembos on there and they frequently have really good sales. I got brembo front disks and pads for about £150 and another £8 for the sensor off ebay (Althoigh I mistakenly got 2 as I never realised you only need 1 sensor per axle!) the guide already linked above is really easy to follow to DIY, all you need is a jack and a decent socket set.

Just been out for a spin with the new HIDs, got to agree with you, way better than Halogens and even my LEDs I was running. Just put the high power LEDs that the HIDs replaced into the full beams too. Just need LED fog lights and thats me set!

I know its most likely not going to make a difference at the MOT, but im just a bit wary after reading so many conflicting things. Just wanted to take away any doubts!

HIDs fitted now the MOT is over and done with! Got to say they dont look massivley brighter than the halogens or LEDs I have used previously. Admittedly it was daytime so cant say for certain, will have another look in a few hours once its dark!

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F370483000601 Used this stuff for my last 2 oil changes, absolutley no issues with it.

MOT this evening. Passed with flying colours, no advisories or minors!! Not bad for a motor about to hit 160k miles!

Went to go top up my power steering fluid again and the leak seems to have stopped!! I did use reccomended pentosin instead of generic CHF11 last top up and Im not sure if the pentosin has conditioner in it which has revived a leaky seal somewhere like a leak stop does possibly?? In any case its in for its MOT next week so going to get them to have a look and see what they find!

    Tire reccomends

Hi all, Im looking for a decent set of all weather tires (not runflats) and wondering what people on here have on their E60s, how they find them and if their are any glowing recommendations for anything in particular? I have just recently got my E60 and its 18" MV2s with a mix match of cheap 245/40 tires that are on it, im getting my alloys refurbed in the next couple of weeks and will be swapping out the tires at the same time so just doing my research now. I know this is a pretty broad question and does to an extent come down to personal preference but just wanting to get a few first hand recommends from other E60 owners to narrow my search a little. Thanks in advance, -Morgan

Likewise, its not like i thrash the car either and the wear was even across both so it wasnt a tracking issue wearing down an uneven spot. Cant rule out that maybe I just got a bad batch I guess.

Good point, forgot about that! The rim protection on the goodyears did save my alloys on a few occasions!!

    Tire reccomends

Im in two minds, do I replace with another 'premium' tyre or go for something cheaper? I have had rotallas before on my old Passat and they were decent enough and lasted ages (just over 3 years and 30k miles), never had any issues with grip/handling etc, but admittedly that was a FWD and a bit more forgiving than the E60.

    Tire reccomends

From that review and him stating its one of the best wearing tires outside of the michellins I would have expected my rear ones to last a bit more than 9 months and 12000 miles! Its not like I was thrashing it either. Curious if anyone else has used the good years on a 520d E60 and how they lasted for them?

    Tire reccomends

Hey all, ressurecting this thread as Im looking for some more reccomendations!! I ended up sticking on 4 new Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 3s on y 18" MV2 alloys back in March, couldnt fault the handling or the ride however I only got about 12000 miles out of the rear ones (still about 5mm left on the front) on 75% motorway commuting. Now this is the first E60 I have had and I have heard they are harsh on the rear tires but I would have expected a bit more longevity out of a decent set of tires like goodyears. Anyway, going to be replacing the shot two when my winter wheels come off and alloys go back on and just looking for first hand reccomendations for something that will last longer than 12000 miles!!

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Topped up my power steering fluid (leaking slowly from somewhere, has been for a while, but thats a job for its MOT next month!!) I used the reccomended Pentosin stuff this time rather than halfords own brand ans noticed it significantly thinner in consistency, just hope it doesnt mean it starts pissing out from whatever is leaking faster!

  22. Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice, I have just had an annoying 'airbag/restraint fault' warning come up again (3rd time in a year) i have coincidently had the car in the garage for other work the previous times that it has come up and they had been doing diagnostics anyway and identified the fault as caused by some sort of minor variance in the voltage of one of the airbags that wouldnt affect the operation of the system and cleared it for me at no additional charge to the work already being done. I dont really fancy taking it back in and paying £40 for a diagnostic and fault clear alone, I would rather invest in some kit myself so I want to get something for clearing faults and doing basic diagnostics. I dont really know where to start so Im looking for some reccomendations. I have heard people mention the Carly and various other DIS systems and I have found quite a few just by googling and they are readily available but I would preffer to go on a solid reccomendation from someone on here who has actually used the kit and can point me in the right direction.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Cleared a really annoying restraint/airbag system fault that was doing my head in. Big thanks to @Deviant for the reccomendation to try the Carista app with my OBD2 module, got it on a free 7 day trial too so never cost me anything!! If I remermber to cancel it before next week anyway!

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

Was sitting frustrated so I downloaded the free trial of Carista and success!!! Fault is cleared and the annoying in your face error is gone!! Although did find a whole plethora of other errors that have not pinged anything on the idrive! But @Deviant thanks for the reccomendation, think its the first thing I have ever tried to do to the E60 that has gone smoothly!!
