What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Cleared a really annoying restraint/airbag system fault that was doing my head in. Big thanks to @Deviant for the reccomendation to try the Carista app with my OBD2 module, got it on a free 7 day trial too so never cost me anything!! If I remermber to cancel it before next week anyway!

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

Was sitting frustrated so I downloaded the free trial of Carista and success!!! Fault is cleared and the annoying in your face error is gone!! Although did find a whole plethora of other errors that have not pinged anything on the idrive! But @Deviant thanks for the reccomendation, think its the first thing I have ever tried to do to the E60 that has gone smoothly!!

Dug it out and just tried it with Torqe there, no joy couldnt find the fault. Will try again tomorrow with thoae other apps you mentioned, failing that I just found someone selling a C110 on ebay for a decent price.

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

I have a cheap OBD2 bluetooth module in the garage somewhere that I bought to try and clear some ABS fault codes on my old Passat a while back using the Torque Pro app but it was pretty useless. Was good for getting live readings from the engine but could only read and clear engine faults, nothing else would show up (ABS and TPS faults didnt anyway), havnt used it since. Never thought about trying it for this though, might dig it out and give it a go, certainly cant hurt to try.

    Reccomendations for OBD/Coding kit

My budget was ~£50, my main goal from any system is to be able to clear faults myself. I would preffer something fairly straight forward and easy to use rather than getting properly into the weeds of code etc, but not opposed to it if thats the only way!

Yeah im carbon black too, I did a partial respray on my front bumper where I scuffed it and it came out pretty well. I have also fully resprayed a set of motorcycle fairings with and got a good result, although all the parts I have done are all plastic so a bit easier than metal!! Dont have a picture of the bumper I did but the pic attatched of my bike (any excuse to show it off! Lol) shows the end result. Just make sure you get a decent quality colour matched paint and some good bodyshop laquer, take your time with the prep, dont rush anything and it can be done. A diy job with a spray can is obviously never going to match the quality of a professional job, but I got a pretty decent result.

Oh its for my 59 plate 520D lci if year etc makes a difference to the kit required.
  12. Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice, I have just had an annoying 'airbag/restraint fault' warning come up again (3rd time in a year) i have coincidently had the car in the garage for other work the previous times that it has come up and they had been doing diagnostics anyway and identified the fault as caused by some sort of minor variance in the voltage of one of the airbags that wouldnt affect the operation of the system and cleared it for me at no additional charge to the work already being done. I dont really fancy taking it back in and paying £40 for a diagnostic and fault clear alone, I would rather invest in some kit myself so I want to get something for clearing faults and doing basic diagnostics. I dont really know where to start so Im looking for some reccomendations. I have heard people mention the Carly and various other DIS systems and I have found quite a few just by googling and they are readily available but I would preffer to go on a solid reccomendation from someone on here who has actually used the kit and can point me in the right direction.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Just got a new G30 530D M Sport as my hire car for the next couple of days!! Have to say, very impressed, very nice to drive, and whilst I love my E60 this is something else!! Probably my only complaint, the new Idrive is a nightmare to get around compared to the CCC! Its like flying the bloody space shuttle with the ammount of knobs and buttons!! If only I had a spare 45k lying around I would maybe treat myself!!

    Winter tires/wheel alignment

Just had it in for the alignmnet, bit the bullet and just put my winter setup on! After speaking to the guy, he checked the rear tyres again and they were literally on the legal limit and he said that it wouldnt throw off the alignment any so on they went!!

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

4 wheel alignmnet take 2!!! Took it in a few weeks ago and the guy noticed my rear toe in on the passenger side had the wrong type bolt holding it together, it had been bodged with a standard hex nut/bolt at some point in the past for one reason or another. So got half an alignment done before he got to that part!! Anyway back today and the correct bolts were fitted and full alignment done! Wasnt toi far out, but a fair bit of it was tweeked last time. Also bit the bullet and put on my winter wheels, mostly because my rear summer tyres were looking a little bald! Wont be buying Goodyear Eagle asymetric 3s again thats for sure, barely got 12000 miles over 7 months out of them on the rear.
