What did you do to your E60/61 today?

The suspension dropped again and the drive home was spine crushing agony! checked the fuse again but that was fine so had to rethink the problem and concluded the relay may be duff and my suspicion was correct...FRied electrics caused by the dreaded water problem.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Whilst driving home I felt like I was driving in a horse and cart, I was bouncing around the cockpit and felt and heard every bump in the road then notice the suspension light had come on....NIGHTMARE!!! So pulled over to see if I could do anything before calling the RAC, so started with the basics and pulled the fuse and bingo blown, but the only fuse available was a 30 and not the 40 that had blown but done the trick. The ride was much smoother BUT the Suspension light remains on...WHY????

unfortunately, that didn't work nor did a good dosing of WD40 and RP90 the Alun key just sheared the head because of the amount of rust and corrosion but thanks for the advice always good for newbies looking for advice

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Attempted to change the front brake pads and disk....got one side done but one of the dreaded disc retaining nut decided to shear its head so tomorrow going to have to drill that bas*#@d out to finish the job. Then noticed daylight between the Front Stabiliser and Bushes ....that cannot be right...can it?

Starting to get dizzy looking at the various errors coming up on the iDrive... then they mystriously disappear, first is the PDC comes as fail then starts, rear passenger window same again, tailgate window mysterious opened then fixed itself, reversing light error but lights are working, the petrol reserve warning comes on whenever it feels like it once at 100 miles, then at 80 then about 75 but im doing a city run, Any ideas if I can do a hard reset and get rid of the error codes or is there a deep seated problem? cheers

Acceleration problems, I know I've read this on the forum but trying to find the thread is taking too much effort What I've done so far is gave the DPF a dose of cleaner and dropped some Injector cleaner in the fuel tank for good measure then blasted down the motorway at 70mph (honestly) for an hour, which helped but pulling away takes high revs to get the car moving. So what do I have to do?

It will be an MOT failure if I don't get it fixed before November 2018, the strange thing which could be just coincidence or not but the lights came on when I changed the alternator before that it was off

just put in a new internal heater blower motor in the old girl, not an easy job but with a bit of time and patience, the guide I used was extremely helpful. I found undoing the console gave you an extra couple of inches to help remove and separate the ducts. Here is the link to the guide I used http://www.bmwrepairguide.com/bmw-e60/blower-motor-replacement-bmw-e60/

another day and yet another problem, went to start the car and NOTHING a bit fat zero! had a little bit of power but that disappeared after about five minutes. The RAC came out and checked it over for about an hour and concluded it was f**ked!! Took it to my old mate Whiff who had to refer it an auto specialist and diagnosed the Negative battery terminal was faulty so job done and a stonking £410 bill to boot.

feeling a bit stupid as the problem was self-inflicted, after installing a new alternator, camshaft pulley and drive belt then reconnecting the battery she starts and drove like a dream but the problem was i did not tighten the battery terminals fully so they were just touching, hence the electrical problems

More headaches... after installing the alternator, fitting the belt and new air con belt all seemed well Until the Aircon belt fell off again?? then on the way to work this morning the drive belt disintegrated into pieces, luckily I was no more than 500 yards away from my destination. So bought a new drive belt from GSF parts and called the RAC to fix it, unfortunately, the RAC man pointed out that these belts don't just break without a fault somewhere and true to his word he found the crankshaft pulley had worn out....quite literally was falling to pieces. BMW in their infinite wisdom do not put all metal pulleys on the crankshaft but a metal and rubber combination to reduce noise. So if your belt falls off or disintegrates this could be a problem. I found a spare through 1st Choice Parts with a company called Quarry Motors for £67 delivered.

Fitted a new alternator to the old car but before it started shutting down I noticed the rear passenger fish eye light is constantly on while driving also warning message that there is a fault in the restraints? So i have now put a new battery and alternator on but the problems are still there...how come?

    open boot with flat battery

I know this is an old post but having Googled and Youtube the subject there was no definitive answer for the E61 but Google listed this and was the only way I could get into my car

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Over the Christmas period the battery decided to give up so purchased a new one from Halfords for a hefty £165! the good thing is the old girl fired up and got me home but there are some underlying issues that need to be addressed which are the battery need to be registered so just purchase an OBD2 to USB cable and NCS Software to do this. What should I be aware of???

does anyone have a set of diagrams for replacing the right and left brake cables? I have researched this for a while and it looks to me you have to take the cockpit centre console out to reach the handbrake balance arm to release the cables.... then do I have to drop the exhaust or can I work around it?

Okay the tool arrived and checked out the video on how to use the thing.... F*#king hell its not as easy as the guy on video would have you believe but hey presto it worked the third time of trying, bloody brilliant

I have been researching this problem and it looks like they use a special tool to fit these belts as there are no tensioners, So I took it to the local Halfords to have the new belt fitted at a cost of £35...wtf are these guys plumbers where did they get that price from!!! So I have taken to buying one those LIsle tools that Jake13 suggested at a cost of £30 which seem to have great reviews by people that have purchased them. I will keep you posted when it arrives and how I get on with it.

yes that sound plausable too and I just brought one owing to the fact nothing has come up on the service history stating the diesel filter has been replaced.

Trying to get to the problem of why the car is lagging especially when driving up hill or even trying to get it up to a decent speed, the revs go no higer than 3500 rpm and thats at a push and its a struggle trying to get it upto 75mph. I have given it a good dosing of DPF cleaner as this done the trick last time but that was less than 500miles since that was done but still I put some more through and drove it hard for about 100 miles and nothing! I have read on another forum that the MAP sensor can give out all sorts of problems similar to mine...anyone want to advise me?
