  1. E39 540i Sport - Delivery at Last!

You bammy jugger! I always wanted a 540. It's the best name for a 5 Series that just rolls of the tongue when you answer someone back when they ask, "what are you driving", whilst you know it's got a great big V8 under the bonnet. Its a great two fingered salute to the ecomentalists.
  2. Wing Mirror Tilt On Reverse

And only if you have certain options, like fully electric seats or folding mirrors. I have neither and I miss the tilting mirror which I had on my E60.
  3. Advice on buying, please

This! Go and drive a 520d by all means but don't buy it until you have driven a 530d.
  4. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Cheers, I know I won't have damaged the sidewall as the system didn't even detect it. Checked the pressure and it's lost 0.1 of a bar. My understanding is that You cant repair runflat if they have been driven whilst flat. Running on flat damages the sidewalls which then obviously ruins the tyre. I've bit done that in my case.
  5. Advice on buying, please

Water leak thread below which can affect all models. The 520d with N47 engine suffers from a rattly timing chain. It's the same chain as in the miles better 530d but it has different tensionsers/guides/sprockets which can make it noisey in service on the 4 pot. It's an engine out job to fix. I wouldn't touch a 520d not just for the timing chain issue but the engine is very agricultural compared to the 6 pot Diesels. All models suffer form air con condenser failure. F11 models can suffer from leaky air springs at the rear. The F10 saloon can suffer from broken rear coil springs too, but not as common. Don't buy the first F10/11 that you see, there are hundreds out there to choose from.
  6. Replacing a wing mirror LED indicator

Newtis is your friend for this sort of thing. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ Punch in your last 7 digits of your chassis number.

Thanks One of my winter tyres, also rft, that came with the car has a plug repair. It's quite obvious that it's been done as the balance weights don't match the three other wheels. Pity, I don't know where the previous owner got it repaired...
  8. Gun Metal Wheels

I thought that. I was disappointed when I saw the colour of mine when I picked them up and then had to get the rears done to match.... but on the car they look fine. What colour is your car? A light car will take a darker wheel colour o.k. But don't go black as you don't want it to look like a gansta's Audi!
  9. Gun Metal Wheels

When I got my 351 wheels powder coated they came back a bit darker but it actually suits my silver car very well to have the wheels slightly darker. This tyre now has a puncture!

Your thoughts being that I can get it repaired? Its old skool tyre warning system working off wheel revolutions rather than pressure. By the time I got home the hissing was very slight. Online prices for a replacement tyre vary wildly by about £80!
  11. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

After washing my winter wheels clean and packaging them away for summer storage, today I picked up a screw in my front new rft. Grrr just noticed it as I got out the car, some sweary words. I'm thinking it's only just gone in as the screw was proud of the tread so might be lucky. Unscrewed it from the tread and it started hissing. More sweary words. Drove home 4 miles without the tyre warning system activating. Tyre has done about 3,500 miles. Even more sweary words. Will need to put an axle set of winters back on till I get it sorted. Local trustworthy tyre fitter not open today.
  12. As we all have nice cars, we can be right fussy bu%%ers when it comes to finding the right spot to park in. Looking for end bays, next to pavements, safe place for the litt'un to get in and out off etc. On a family trip out to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, I found the perfect spot. Drove around the car park until I found a parking bay that I could guarantee that no one would park next to me. Park next to the electric car charging bays. They are guaranteed to be empty and sure enough, not only were all EIGHT electric charge bays empty but some of the chargers were broken/not working/prevented from being used! Plenty of room to open the doors and a safe spot for getting the littl'un in and out of her car seat.
  13. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Used it for a rare family day out today. Wife's car in garage for warranty work. A trip to the Falkirk Wheel saw my (this tank) mpg improve to 29.3 mpg.
  14. F07 electrics out

Is that the number 5 model you have got @chrisn7? I can't recal the exact model spec but it's xxxx5 which I have. Not used it on my car yet but it brought back to life an old Ford battery I have kept for using with a cordless drill whose battery had died.
  15. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

You are correct it's been designed for the mass market 520d. If there wasn't 8 speeds in it, you wouldn't get the performance out of a 5 Series that you should expect from a 5 Series. 8 speeds allows Mr 520d to get off the lights quicker than Doris in her 1.0 Fiesta. If you have ever driven a manual 520d and missed a gear change you will now be reading Doris's rear number plate. Due to its very short useful rev range it needs 8 speeds to stay on the power to get the desired performance from a BMW. Put an extra pair of cylinders onto the engine and its transformed into a great cruiser.

An SMG is meant to be driven like you stole it, it's a manual box with an automated clutch. It will never be as good as a full waftomatic even in 'auto' mode.

And another vote for Bilt Hamber....
  19. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

And why is that? Too many gears, that's why. You don't need 8 speeds with my engine or yours. I use the paddles all the time to slow the car down. I drive my wife's auto and the first thing I do on approaching a bend is reach for the non existent paddles, but as it has a more sensible number of gears, 6, it's o.k.
  20. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Lol, It's meant to rev high when from a cold start. It warms up the engine and your DPF to make it all work better. My Senator used to drive me nuts in the cold, it wouldn't engage the TC lock up until the engine (and its cats) were fully warmed up. No it gives you a good while before shifting back into D. Still don't like it. I've kicked down to overtake with a cold engine and box and yup, it lets the engine scream right up to the redline. That can't be good......but the computer says o.k.
  21. F10 530d Owner - Remap Question

An Ecoboost Ford 3 pot, a VW Diesel Polo, or worse still a 520d if you are after economy...... You don't buy a decent car like a 530d and then worry about mpg.
  22. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

The computer will only change up if you are in danger of over revving it. I've over downshifted in error and hit 2nd but it was still within its rev limits just. If it's in D and you use the paddles for a shift, and then don't touch the throttle or you brake or you come to a stop the computer takes over and you default back to D. There is a difference between post and pre LCi boxes though.
  23. Pot hole! Burst 2 tyres

Get on to the council. I mashed a rft and rim in a pothole on my E60. Council payed out over 90% of the costs after sending a couple of letters. New tyre, new rim and a full four wheel alignment.
  24. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Has it failed again? Or the change in 2015 wasn't documented so when its hit the dealer system again its flagged up?
  25. eBay Carbon Grilles
