  1. I was unlucky enough to pick up a puncture on a virtually new run flat tyre. The screw was noticed with a few hundred yards max of it penetrating the tyre as the head of the screw was still proud of the tread. I removed it and immediately air leaked out. I drove 4 miles home without the tyre pressure warning system even recognizing the loss of air. So no reduction in rolling radius of the tyre. I removed the wheel and replaced the axle set with a pair of my winter tyres to keep me mobile. My local tyre fitter, Collins Tyres in Johnstone advised that they were prepared to repair it subject to no side wall damage. Plug fitted and size of screw. Cost me £12 for a puncture repair. I trimmed down the plug a bit more. Driving on a run flat tyre with low air pressure in the tyre will cause irreparable damage to the sidewall of tyre, that's how they work to get you home or to the nearest tyre fitter. As I had only driven 4 miles and the system hadn't even noticed I was confident that it should be repairable. It had only dropped 0.1 of a bar by the time I was home. Tyre fitter confirmed that there was no internal damage to the tyre. High Street national tyre fitting chains will not repair a run flat and will try and sell you a new tyre. They take the manufacturers attitude of its not repairable. Smaller independents will usually offer a repair subject to it not being near the tyre shoulder and no internal damage.
  2. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Yeah, don't try and kid us, you are us much under the thumb of her indoors as the rest of us.
  3. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

So where are the M5's then if you both "buy what you want"?
  4. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

How do you get such purchases past the bank manager, Mrs Ashton?
  5. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

By my calculations you are paying £100 for clean barrels. I'd hate to see your definition of a high price. Suppose it depends on how bad your OCD is.
  6. Anyone have a Quentin Willson warranty?

Don't get me started on the BMW dealer "Parks"!
  7. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Oh aye and cos I'm a tight Scotsman, here are my wheel cleaning brushes, one of which cost about 49p from Tesco.....
  8. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

I removed it myself so I could drive it 4 miles home after noticing it. Didn't want it to do anymore damage. Rest assured its in the bin now so it can't mortally injure any other tyres.
  9. Anyone have a Quentin Willson warranty?

I've heard of Kuga's being hard on springs. My wife has one, it too was a replacement for a Focus. It was in for warranty work on Friday at a dealer who's surname sounds like shark and it still isn't fixed after three attempts so its going to a different Ford garage tomorrow. Still it is really easy to reset the service light in it though.......
  10. Milk Top Dust Cover.

Sounds like your strut top mounts have failed. You want a new one, not a milk bottle top fitting. Part #1 in link below. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=NB32-EUR-05-2004-E60-BMW-545i&diagId=31_0661 Replace the pair ideally.
  11. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

For the benefit of doubt, I look like neither of the above two "Scotsmen"! I got my puncture repaired. Rubber mushroom plug fitted. The plug is needed to seal the tyre to stop water getting into the plies and damaging the tyre. You can see how small the screw was and given that it was proud of the tread it inflicted quite an injury. £12 from local tyre supplier. It was the same fitter that put the tyres on the freshly powder coated rims last year. He recognized me and said "are they rims still minted?" which for you posh southerns means "I say old chap, those are smashing wheels, are they still in tip top condition?"
  12. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

£49! FORTY NINE POUNDS? I'll take the wheels off first lol! But I can get in to clean the barrel of 351 so that's o.k. But they would do the job right enough.
  13. Wheel cleaner

I use Billberry diluted down but for a proper deep clean it needs to be used neat. Bilt Hamber gets sprayed on straight from the bottle. Before Bilt Hamber doing its thing. After.
  14. B47 f10 2014 fuel economy

Simple physics, more weight, more energy required to lug it about. BMW have been rumbled recently about their emissions on the G30 on the 4 pot Diesel. Not good.
  15. B47 f10 2014 fuel economy

Yeah but the is far far heavier than your previous E60. My F10 max loaded is over 2300kg. I don't think my E60 fully loaded weighed anywhere near that, and I've got a smaller/lighter engine now. But the main bonus of the B47 over your 2009 E60 520d is that the valvetrain drive doesn't have components made from cheese. I would rather put more fuel in it than worry about a four figure repair bill to sort out the dodgy valvetrain drive.
  16. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

The outside face mibbies but those who (have OCD) like a clean barrel, the spokes are too big to get my hands in between the wheel and brakes to clean the barrel as can be seen below, I can only get in to get to a small part of the barrel the slightly cleaner bit you can see near the valve stem. Quite corroded. Not helped by being titchy 17" something has been trapped between the brake disc or suspension ball joint and the rim and has scored a couple of them. 18" would offer that bit more clearance and still give a decent choice of winter tyres. And proof that you can repair rfts, here is the obvious plug on one of my winters. In the centre of the picture you can clearly see a plug right in the middle of the tyre where interestingly there is no wwww pattern.

For even more candles or cos you like eating cake?
  18. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

So should we have sung you happy birthday yesterday? Did your cake look like this then?
  19. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Called Local tyre fitter who are happy to consider repairing it if no damage to sidewalls which they are happy to think won't be the case as it wasn't driven on whilst flat, but they would check it out. Sounds hopeful.
  20. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

You are old, by your own omission you are 50 after all. The 351s are actually easier to clean as they are powder coated with many many layers of wax and sealant over them so the dirt almost just hoses off them.
  21. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Going for the hybrid SE/MSport look.
  22. E39 540i Sport - Delivery at Last!

You bammy jugger! I always wanted a 540. It's the best name for a 5 Series that just rolls of the tongue when you answer someone back when they ask, "what are you driving", whilst you know it's got a great big V8 under the bonnet. Its a great two fingered salute to the ecomentalists.
  23. Wing Mirror Tilt On Reverse

And only if you have certain options, like fully electric seats or folding mirrors. I have neither and I miss the tilting mirror which I had on my E60.
  24. Advice on buying, please

This! Go and drive a 520d by all means but don't buy it until you have driven a 530d.
  25. What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Cheers, I know I won't have damaged the sidewall as the system didn't even detect it. Checked the pressure and it's lost 0.1 of a bar. My understanding is that You cant repair runflat if they have been driven whilst flat. Running on flat damages the sidewalls which then obviously ruins the tyre. I've bit done that in my case.
