  3. Oh dear. Find somewhere else to do the service mate. I think half the problem is when poorly advised garages pass on this info to the customer. The way my BMW specialist put it to me was "if the gearbox oil is supposed to be for life, why have ZF given the gearbox a drain and fill hole." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Hi all, I'm getting all 4 wheels refurbed soon as they're all suffering from the usual BMW wheel corrosion. At the same time I'm going to have all 4 tyres changed and am thinking of sticking Conti 6s on. When I bought the car 3 weeks ago it came with 2 Accelera tyres on the rear, 1 wanli on the front, and 1 Conti 2. All have 6mm+ of tread on them but I just don't trust the budgets in the wet. I've read great things about the 6s and they're top of my list at the moment so i thought I'd see if anyone here has any experience of them on a 5 series. Cheers, Westy
  6. I'll be needing some new rears soon. Nearly had the Conti 5's on for a year and 14k miles. They've been great tyres but I think I'll look for something with a slightly better wear rate. I'll have a quick scout through some tyres on here: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/ I've heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 so am swaying towards them at the moment.   9. And no mention of the EGR stat anywhere. In many cases the main thermostat is capable of getting the coolant above 75 degrees but if the EGR stat is weak then the regen can also have issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Personally I can't see how glow plugs are needed for the regen. They are used to warm the cylinders pre starting on a cold engine. Once the engine is running they've served their purpose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I think the main consideration is the preservatives used in the oil. A different oil mix could effectively eat at the clutch plates instead of protecting them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Hi guys, So this week I started noticing an occasional clunk at the front of the car which seemed to only happen during braking at low speeds. The clunk would also sometimes appear when pulling away after the initial clunk during braking. Anyway, I have done 250 miles so far this week and have been trying to pin point the problem. I'm pretty sure it's not suspension related as I've been over speed bumps and some rough roads with no clunking. I've also done over 100 miles with the gearbox in manual mode just in case the clunk was as a result of a certain gear change, but no clunking. This morning I didn't hear the clunk once on my way to work (50 miles) and then as I pulled into the carpark there was a horrendous screeching noise which was quite clearly rotational like metal on metal. I opened my windows and I'm sure the noise was coming from the passenger front. As I slowed, the noise reduced. I did some hard braking in the carpark to try and clear the problem and this seems to have done the trick. Under visual inspection I can't see anything on any of the 4 discs that might be a giveaway. I'm going to go for a spin at lunch to see if the issue is still there. Has anyone had anything similar on their E60/E61?

  22. Temperature gun arrived yesterday so I checked the temps of my discs this morning. All were around 18-19 degrees after parking up. I heard the clunking a few times this morning though. Heard it during a turn on a roundabout and also when hitting a bump. No idea what's going on. Will need to get under the car or drop it off at my specialist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
