    In my defence, neither myself or the owner before me experienced any running issues. I'm not sure I could know a bolt/shaft was about to shear off and it just seems extreme bad luck it happened on your way home after purchasing the car. If it's any consolation, I had very recently spent 3k on complete ac recommissioning on this car, even as it initially appeared 'only' the compressor had to be bolted on. I guess that's 3K less YOU have to spend (!) but as other people have mentioned, M5's are not cheap cars to run. I do feel bad for you but with no prior knowledge of any issue, I can only hope it can be fixed quickly for you to enjoy as it was intended.

    Health issues, which I explained to the OP, meant I wasn't using the car. I think I'd driven it less than 1000 miles in 6 months. It was a shame to keep such a car parked up, I felt another enthusiast would enjoy it more than I'd been able to. Still, gutted to let it go...

    I was the previous owner the OP bought the car from and I was truly horrified to hear he'd broken down on the way home. Considering I'd driven the car without fault in my ownership and that the test-drive and most of the journey home was faultless, the breakdown really upset me as I'd never sell a car if there was a fault like that without fixing it. The instant fault sounds like extreme bad luck, it could have easily happened when in my ownership if I'd waited even a day to sell. With no warning of anything gradual, I couldn't even suggest what could be wrong, much to my annoyance. The day before the test-drive, a coolant hose split and I ran around like a headless chicken and pulled in a favour from my BMW specialist to get the car fixed asap, just so the OP didn't have to wait another week for the test! I really hope his mechanic finds the issue and resolves it quickly. Please let me know when it's back on the road.

    Not sure it's now worth nearly 30K but no, it was the principle. I'm happy to deal with a person with integrity, not someone trying to make a quick buck out of me. If he'd said he wanted 18K in the first place, that's a different story. Anyway, I ended up with a fantastic machine so there was a happy ending to this story!

The day before I was going to pick up, he changed his mind and said he wanted 18K. I refused out of principle. Now you can see how much it has "appreciated" in 6 months... Anyone going to see it will surely find a good car but I just don't trust this seller after my experience. Just a heads-up for anyone wishing to go and view.
  8. Another update - I've had the alarm professionally removed by a local auto electrician. He told me the immobiliser unit was effed, that was causing the no-start issue. I am perfectly happy using the key manually (SHOCK, HORROR!), like the good old days Thanks to the M5 newbie for their response.
  9. Update - just spoke to the previous owner who also had niggles with the alarm so we both suspect the immobiliser is not going off.
  10. Hi all Just yesterday, the car started without issue. Today, I went to start it up, turning the key to the on position lights up all the normal lights on the dash. However, I don't hear the fuel pump, or the relay clicking. When I turn the key, nothing, no sound at all, it doesn't even crank. Perhaps the issue is with the Clifford alarm? It does appear to be temperamental so maybe the immobiliser has locked me out of the starting system? I do think this is the issue so how do I disable the damn thing?! Cheers in advance

    Just on the off chance, as part of ac recommissioning, I'm in need of an ac compressor for the beast. I think the genuine p/n is 64528390468 but more knowledgeable folk may correct me. Anyone out there got hold of a good one? Cheers

    Duxford Spring car club visit

    Hi Chris Let me know which car you'll be bringing and I'll try to find you. Unfortunately, my M5 is still in the garage having its ac recommissioned so I won't be able to bring that along.     M5 valet today. Results

    Ben from Prisdean came back today to do my 330d daily. Again, a fantastic job! Very pleased with his efforts, I'll be using him again for a top-up to both cars in 6 months.

    I did read the advert but it seemed the photographer wanted a 'vibrant' colour rather than black (or that's how I read it anyway!).
