    E34 520i Touring Daily Project

uh yeah, I did miss this thread. good work adam
  2. Just read all of this and my only disappointment is that it only lasted 3 pages ! Your attention to detail, not only in the way you perform your repairs and upgrades, but in the way you explain the process and organize your posts leaves me speechless. This was an utter pleasure to read, a true enjoyment for a fellow petrolhead and oldtimer enthusiast like me, and it also serves as source of much needed motivation to complete my project, still lightyears away from what I can see in these pages. You seem to know these cars inside out and yet again, the information you share are like precious gems in the world of online forums, where cheap cars meet cheap parts and also "cheap" owners, where everything is "that'll do", finding someone truly experienced and also dedicated to help others by listing part numbers and also prices, is something totally unheard of, so thank you. Looking forward to future updates, in the meantime I'm probably going to read all this again.

    Piper's E39 540i Touring

Just read through this. looks like trouble isn't just in e34s!! keep on trucking @Piper, I know what losing interest and motivation means, my suggestion is to move to something else while keeping the e39. Sooner or later you'll gain enough motivation to start again an da enjoy it. im doing plans to put mine back on the road after laying her up for close to two years now, I feel your pain!

ACS Type2 set of 5 GENUINE -swaps-

Thank you @Blackman, throwing stars look ace in my opinion but are out of place on a non-M car like mine. sw London.. where about ?

The low emission zone hopefully won't be a problem. I'm looking to buy a house somewhere in surrey and definitely not interested in sharing the road space with the black cabs and ubers of central London. ive called many insurance providers, best quote was Lancaster in the high 700s, or admiral on a multi cover with my Clio. Still stupid money. before all this I need to sort the body out. Any body shops you'd recommend..?

Thanks @Dongiov I did considered them but ultimately decided to look for flat stars instead. Thank you!

ACS Type2 set of 5 GENUINE -swaps-

Looks like offset 13 to me Dennis. this is my only set of wheels, so ideally I'm looking to swap them otherwise the barge will sit on the ground as the axle stands will go right through the non existing sills..

ACS Type2 set of 5 GENUINE -swaps-

Thanks @The Flying Banana, my bad I wasn't clear. The "try me" was referred to swapping a set of 4 for my 5 wheels. thanks for the offer, the only two style of wheels I'm considering are 5 and 16. have a good evening !
  10. Hi people, Up for swaps is my set of 5 AC Schnitzer Type 2 wheels, they are genuine ACS made by Ronal in the early 2000s. 17x8.5 all round. ACS Decals present on all 5, only 4 center caps. Fairly good condition apart for some really light kurb damage and some careless cleaning (see picture, only behind the spoke). I have access to a tire balancer and spun all 5 on it, they are straight and need very little weight to balance. Pretty darn rare to find a set of 5 matching genuine acs wheels. Continentals not included. I will only swap for a staggered set of 17" Style 5 OR 17' Staggered Style 16 (flat stars), don't mind a set of 4, you never know try me Located in SW London Cheers

Hi @Piper the car is still in the same garage pictured above, and I'm still using the Clio that in the meantime has been totally converted to Cup suspension and drove almost 20k miles in a year ! That would be impossible in the BMW, with the money I earn atm. Funny enough, I'm phoning different insurance companies today to find out how much could cost me to put the BM back on the road. Still needs the sills welded and outer panel replacing, and I'm halfway through repainting the replacement double sunroof cassette that was white. The exhaust also has to be put right but that's a couple of hours welding and should be done. I put two continentals at the back to ditch the useless nankangs, and professionally cleaned and balanced the fuel injectors. She does get started every few weeks, but really she's just been sleeping. Not to go anywhere though, this is my car, and still my favorite.

This must have been a looong and "empty year" for the old barge. After all that work, she was put away in a garage and only came out last week for a cheeky run round the block to make sure nothing was seized. (and she clocked 145k miles a few minutes after that..) i purchased a little run around to have fun with, and I'm trying my best to get a little more out of each payslip, so that I can finalize the work on this car, and finally drive it. I'm worried that the engine may have some compression issues, as It still struggled to fire up when warm. if that will be the case, I don't know what my next move could me. i'm not getting rid of her, I said it !

I saw that advert too. what a nice looking car, I've been following this thread for a long time and it has been a good source of info and inspiration to finish my own 540iT/6.

Good work Adam, makes me feel bad about my car that's been sleeping in a garage for months now ! Speaking of brakes, from a 540 touring owner, I'd say they could be a good upgrade for a car with a smaller engine like yours , specially if you can get your hands on a touring that has vented rear discs. Good luck
