New Ignition switch, will not crank

Yeah just got back in, got it working. There was some black residue on pin 8 inside the box, cleaned it with some sandpaper and alcohol cleaner. It started working perfectly, it was only on one pin, so everything else was working but the EWS wasn't allowing the engine to turn on.
  3. Hiya So this is for the range rover again, M57 engine and shares all the same BMW hardware. It had a new battery 3 weeks ago. So a couple of days ago a neighbor rang me to tell me my brake lights were on, went out and unlocked the car and the ignition is on, the hevac system is lit up also. So I thought I'd start it and run it due to the ignition being on for a while. After about 30 minutes, I turned and removed the key and the engine was still running, so I put it back in, turned it back and forwards until it went off. I ordered a new ignition switch and I am having a little difficulty with it. So the old switch was cleaned with contact cleaner before I received the new one, and has been working good so far. I swapped the switch out for the new one and the car will no longer crank. The ignition comes on as usual with all the correct lights, not even the starter clicks. No codes in the BCM. If replaced with the old switch, it starts perfectly. The only reason I'm asking here is because it is the same ignition switch as the E39, E38 and E53. I've read on previous posts that a new switch solves the issues, but can't find out why mine won't start with the new one.

    Webasto and Android Head Unit?

Get a webasto telestart from a L322 Range Rover Vogue or BMW X5, get a T91 remote and wire it up. It needs power, ground and the third wire to pin one on the webasto. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F401578188781 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F172864848524 https://www.carsystems.eu/how-to-install-a-webasto-telestart-to-bmw-e39-530d,b11.html car-technical-documentation-telestart-t91.pdf

    Rear Facelift Lights

I'm sure there are no LEDs in the rear lights, it's a halogen bulb. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

    Tools for doing work

If you don't mind spending a little more, Halfords advanced 200 piece tool set is for 130 at the moment. I've got one myself and it has nearly everything you would need and a lifetime warranty.

    TD6 Battery issues

Hello, so I am having issues with my 2004 vogue TD6, it has the BMW M57 engine, I recently tried to get the auxiliary heater working again but had no joy. I've removed the fuse for the heater after it failed to start on a cold morning, it happened last year around the same time. I have a battery test from last year and today, the battery was dead and had to be jump started, it started on the first try. I cleaned up the terminals, removed the fuse for the auxiliary heater and now want to know for sure that I need a new battery. I'll include the picture of the test, if anyone can shed some light on the figures. Thanks

    Rattling engine noise

Check injector values on Inpa or do a return flow test. And yes the noise is normal.

    Rattling engine noise

That noise is normal from the oil cap. If there is a clicking when it's closed, I'd suggest looking at the crank pulley. That's what went on mine, you may even be able to see some movement as it spinning.

    Heated sport steering wheel?

Hello, so I have been researching about retrofitting a heated steering wheel into my E39. I'm going to use an E46 M3 SMG slip ring, an L322 wheel for the element and heating control unit. The switch used is on the steering wheel, I'm using the E53 X5 wiring diagrams as they are nearly identical. On the diagram, it uses a PNP resistor as a switch, so when it is switched on, am I right in saying the role of the transistor is to switch it off and on to keep the temp at a certain level? Secondly, if I add a PNP resistor in the wheel and use the ground and live going through the slip ring to switch it on and off, is this possible? And lastly what kind of transistor do I need? I'll attach a link to the schematic, this is still a theory and hasn't developed any further, it's something I'm looking to do in December, hopefully. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e53-x5-3.0d-sav/wiring-functional-info/chassis-suspension/steering/steering-wheel-heating/no0TaXj Green (3) is live Black (2) is Ground Yellow (1) is the temperature sensor Thanks Qasim

Whistle Bzzz sound instead of ptew ptew turbo whistle

The bolt broke, I had to get it drilled out and rethreaded. This was the noise https://photos.app.goo.gl/kEqZAepjnFo6Tcmc6

Whistle Bzzz sound instead of ptew ptew turbo whistle

I did have a TD6 Vogue with the M57 that sounded like the blades were in contact with the housing, changed the turbo and it was still there. It turned out to be one of the intake bolts which had snapped allowing the pressure out the manifold. It did sound like metal on metal grinding, turbo wheel had some slight movement but not a lot. Check the intake manifold

What did you do to your E39 today ?

I found these for your headlights, I don't know if they're cheaper elsewhere. https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/bmw/5er/5er-e39/facelift-headlights-adapter-bmw-5er-e39
