E39 M5 clutch & flywheel - too good to be true?

Thanks - that's really helpful. I'm still a little wary on the price but there's only one way to find out if it's legit!
  3. It's been at least a week since we had a thread on this, right? So I'm looking to replace the clutch and flywheel on the M5 and there seems to be such a variety of prices and options it's making my head hurt! From what I understand, the OEM BMW and Sachs units are all made by LUK, which seem to be available from a variety of sources. Good ol' eBay has the following, which seems about right price-wise from what I've seen: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUK-DUAL-MASS-DMF-FLYWHEEL-AND-SACHS-CLUTCH-KIT-FOR-BMW-M5-E39-4-9/371879306526 ...but there's also this listed, for over 300 quid less from an eBay store claiming to be Euro Car Parts: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-BMW-5-Series-E39-Z8-Dual-Mass-Flywheel-3PC-Clutch-Kit-With-Bearing/292420000034?fits=Cars+Type%3AM5|Plat_Gen%3AE39&hash=item4415971922:g:NQoAAOSwgcVbBmMq:rk:4:pf:0 Trouble is, if you go to the ECP website the combined cost of clutch + flywheel is over £1k (or about 900 quid on CP4L), so the second link above looks too good to be true, despite claiming to be LUK components... Before I make a potentially expensive mistake, has anyone purchased either of the above recently, or can recommend somewhere to source the parts without unnecessarily inflated prices? I seem to remember there being some available via Amazon at some point, but I can't find the link now.

    What are you currently drinking...?

Get hold of a bottle of Eagles Rare (or Blanton's if you're feeling particularly flush, but prices have gone crazy recently!). It's fantastic stuff and knocks the best of Jack & Jim out of the park IMHO

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Replaced the wiper relay - now my wipers self-park again!
  9. I'd be interested in how much you're quoted for a respray... it's on the cards for mine at some point, although I want to make sure all the mechanical elements are sorted first.

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Get ready for attention. I've had two people pull alongside me and pointedly open the window and gesticulate "make noise!" at me on the M40 so far, and one shouted request across at some traffic lights as to whether my car is for sale because I'm a "sick man." Or something. I've only had the H&S boxes on for a week

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Oh don't worry, I'll get something up over the weekend when I can work out how to mount the GoPro

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Just collected mine after having Hayward & Scott back boxes fitted. Drive home will be fun...

    Autoglym Lifeshine

I may have missed something (I'm not familiar with Poorboys polish) but do you not apply wax after polishing? Mine will always get a final coat of either Megs wax or quick-wax (depending on how lazy I'm feeling!).

    More headlight questions (sorry)

Thanks for the help all - much appreciated. Replacement headlight also had broken adjusters (shock!) but - crucially - didn't have fubared threads on the adjusters too. I've managed to replace both plastic adjusters on the new headlight, fit the adapter for the xenon bulb and get it back in the car. I'll set the levels tomorrow I think!
