  1. Electric throttle-valve actuator The DME control unit calculates the position of the throttle valve: from the position of the accelerator pedal and the torque required by other control units. In the electric throttle-valve actuator, the position of the throttle valve is monitored by 2 potentiometers. The electric throttle-valve actuator is electrically opened or closed by the DME control unit. With Valvetronic, the throttle-valve actuator is activated for the following functions: • Engine start (warm-up) • Idle speed control • Full load operation • Emergency operation copy/paste from TIS, don’t know what temp they class as warm up. I know from a cold start mine will idle at 1k for maybe 20 seconds, then 800ish for maybe 2 minutes before dropping to 500 I’d check both breather valves, one each bank under the round cap, ensure not split check the breather hose from each bank to the manifold is OK, recently found mine brittle and cracked. Failure of either can allow unmetered air into manifold and cause unsteady idle

    Payment sent many thanks. Iain
  3. Breather pipe

Hi, can you quote me the following breather pipe: 11617540610 Thanks, iain
  4. I would reckon if was a valvtronic fault would be a complete bank throwing a fault not an individual cylinder as Andrew said before the breathers prob give issue more when warmed up, mine when clogged with moisture will start smoking when warm/hot - I clean them regular and issue is reduced, I know this affects the idle too the thermostat prob wouldn’t cause the issue your experiencing, maybe a long warm up if anything do you know what the fault codes are? These maybe won’t be the actual fault but could go a long way to the correct solution on my e39 535the cam sensor failing gave a similar fault to your experience, and never gave a fault code either is however 4 on the n62 engines, plus eccentric cam sensors too, all getting complicated reply with fault codes, someone can maybe give some guidance

Mine is TU engine so doesn’t have the secondary air pump so may behave slightly different does the OP engine idle at 500 straight away from a cold start? If so seems too slow until the engine is at operating temp.
  6. The MAP thermostat runs the engine at approx 105 oC, the ECU allows control of the thermostat down to approx 90oC when the engine is under load, it does this with a built in heater in the thermostat body. When my thermostat failed I had a code for MAP stat mechanical, engine never went above 90 degrees. I replaced stat and the engine ran at 107 afterwards. Had no running issues whatsoever, just a fault code for the error +1 for checking breathers I believe the valvetronic doesn’t control throttle until a certain engine temp, until then it’s the throttle body controls engine, is this clean and error free do you have any DME fault codes? Unless you have a bottomless wallet appropriate fault codes are the only way to accurately diagnose these engines, parts throwing is never the answer

  9. HID replacement bulbs

+1 for these, just fitted to mine 2 weeks ago, much improved from the 2005 fitted osram xenarc that were removed D1S fitted to car, and yes happydays eurocarparts also listed D2S as being fitted to my car = wrong
  10. 550i

Had my 550i msport a year now, it's more a weekend car as when I use it for 4 mile each to work trips it gets about 14mpg. Average 25/26 though, easily getting low 30's if more sedate runs but with the thrust it provides forwards and the wonderful noise it's usually closer to 25, it was never bought for economy so I don't really care. 19" alpinas and non runflats I don't think it's overly hard ride at all. Hard to find a speed where you can unsettle it either, great presence on road and always makes me grin f*** the road tax, it's worth it! Mine just at £290 or what ever it is a year, second car is zero road tax to maybe that's easier swallowed saw mine on auto trader Wednesday, was driving it back home 350 mile on the Friday lunchtime. Just had to be done , I've not regretted buying it at all
  11. N62 Valve seals

CCV valves at front of each bank, on top of rocker cover im not convinced it's the valve stem oil seals yet, maybe I'm trying to convince myself it's not them due to labour involved
  12. N62 Valve seals

I've had the smells and plumes of blue a few times, replaced the orange CCV valves and it all ran clear for 7 months(they were not torn) 2 weeks ago, took them out, cleaned and refitted = all good no smoke again mine seem to choke up a little with condensation and a tiny bit mayo and the smoke starts again, guess they stick open and allow vapour into intake
  13. M-Sport Front Mud Flaps are Required

Sorry, doesn't show status on my iPad app they are in and out of stock all the time, I've had on my watch list for ages, never got round to buying them

  15. Wheel speed sensor issue?

What is the steering angle reading with steering wheel straight ahead? my steering wheel was off to the left from straight ahead, when driven hard and DSC intervened, the car would start drifting had full alignment carried out, steering wheel straight ahead again and steering reads 0 degrees, no more drifting
