    Car detailing guide

Me too! I'm sure I read somewhere previously that that was the correct way to do it- I need to get my old detailing book out of storage and check. Maybe wax technology has changed and thus the techniques?

    1:43 scale E39 models

Hi Gents, Any recommendations for good quality 1:43 scale (non-M5) E39 models? I don't think Minichamps makes one unfortunately. This is perhaps the best option, "Neo"?:

    Recommendation for car cover

Hi Gents, Can anyone recommend a quality brand for an E39 car cover (which I intend to use indoors; the car is garaged). Thanks

Advice for a track day helmet

Hi Gents, I've tried to find info (including on this forum) regarding what kind of helmet to buy for the occasional track day/Nurburgring outing and what makes it a bit more challenging is that I live in Germany so the comments I've found about standards etc. are mostly not applicable. I've read that one of the main standards in the EU is ECE 22-05, at least for motorcycles- is it enough if I just try out a few which meet that standard? And are there any brands to avoid? I have no idea what I'm doing Thanks!

Ford Focus Mark 1 as daily driver

Good feedback, thanks Gents. I could always drop a TVR V8 engine in anyway if we get bored Just kidding...

Ford Focus Mark 1 as daily driver

Hi Gents, We want to buy a reliable and affordable estate car for my wife and it seems a Ford Focus MK1 could be an ideal choice- the version with 130HP, not one of the anemic 1.4's. The prices are certainly good but the internet research I've done seems to hint that the car doesn't have QUITE the sterling reputation for reliability I'd hoped for, but I think the majority of problems were with the diesel versions? Does anyone have any firsthand experiences with these cars? I'd thought of a Volvo V40 too but they are more expensive & I think a bit less dependable, especially if I lost control and bought the T4 version. Cheers

    inane battery questions

Hi mate, thanks, it's nice to be back! I guess my absence was caused by a combination of the nuclear 540i being reliable (and admittedly not driven as much; I've been zipping around in a 1996 328i), my sh*t job (now escaped from), and my fiance getting pregnant. But it's good to be back! Then again there was always this incident:

    inane battery questions

Sh*t, I didn't think of that. However, I didn't lock the 540i after the "operation" so hopefully all will be fine? However, I DID lock my E36 Wildmobile after disconnecting its battery since it stays outside...Gulp?!

Great tips Gents, thanks...the mighty beast will sleep in peace then whilst I'm away.

    inane battery questions

Hi Gents, I'm totally non-DIY (except for cosmetics/valeting, in which case I'm exactly the opposite) so I have some silly questions to ask. I'm going away for a month so I have to visit the 540i tonight in the garage where it's stored and disconnect the battery. The thing is I fly out tomorrow morning at 6AM so I need to get it right the first time tonight. So, I'll disconnect the negative terminal first, but: 1. Is there already a tool in the BMW toolkit which fits the battery bolt etc.? The only wrench I have at home is the size suitable only for unscrewing the bolts on gigantic oil rigs or Airbuses or something. 2. Someone mentioned that it would be adequate to only disconnect the negative terminal, but is that true? Thanks and apologies for the ultra-boring question*! *but surely better to ask embarrassing questions rather than...accidentally blowing yourself up at some point.

    Prototypical 5 series owners

Gentlemen, we're back...and better than ever:
  12. Hi Gents, Could you please give me some good ideas for the best shops for finding used bumpers etc. (wreckers etc. too)? Any useful links would be much appreciated. I'm looking for an E36 328i front bumper in Calypso red. Thanks!

best wheel wax / sealent recommendations needed

Goddamnit...I never even used any waxes on my wheels...I guess it never even occurred to me that it was just silver paint like on the body and not pure metal or aluminum or whatever, so all I've been doing is cleaning them. Yet another reminder of how far behind I am with cosmetic car care...

What kind of nutter does that??!!! I use ostrich blood and it works a treat lads.

best wheel wax / sealent recommendations needed

This brings to mind a question I've had in the back of my mind for a while- What do you guys do (for protection etc.) for the average (silver) wheel finish, for example BMW factory Style 32 or 19? I just wash them with Meguiar's wheel cleaner regularly, and that's it! Hopelessly naive? Enlighten me mates! Thanks!
