  11. B10 3.3 Running Report

I introduced my 'new' car last year and have been loving every minute of driving it ever since, so I thought i'd do a running report. http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/74257-new-addition-to-the-bmw-family/ The first 10000 miles (in my ownership anyway) have just passed under the wheels and I had a service carried out by CPC in Amersham. The owner Phil is universally recommended over a number of forum, including this one, so I dropped it in there yesterday. Aside from the oil service it had a thorough inspection and needed one or two jobs tackling. I had reported the obligatory E39 'shimmy' which has been sorted with new reaction bushes and the rear discs and pads were replaced. Also noted were a small leak from the rocker cover gasket which was apparently very brittle and a weeping power steering hose, also replaced. Two preventative maintenance jobs included a transmission fluid and filter change as well as changing the differential oil. All in all, an expensive day but worth it and the car drives even more smoothly than it already did. I was very impressed by CPC - a thorough recommendation from me. Following the advice of the previous owner, I've been running it on 10w 60 grade oil instead of the recommended 10w 30. This has meant a reduced oil consumption down to approx 4 litres over the 10K miles which I'm told is good for one of these. This was endorsed by CPC yesterday as a recognised measure to reduce consumption and they have duly filled it with Mobil 1 10w 60. I've been monitoring fuel consumption on fuelly.com since purchase. In the 9912 miles it's been filled up 29 times (always to the brim with V Power) and returned an average of 26 mpg, with the best tankful giving 29.1 mpg. The bottom line is, it costs 24p per mile in petrol. Yes, I know 10K miles in 6 months would probably have cost less in fuel in a diesel and this might not be the most economical way to do 20K miles a year but I have little depreciation to worry about and no finance interest payments to make. Above all else it is a fantastic car to drive with that silky smooth 6 cyl engine purring and burbling away. The occasional spin up to the 7200 rpm redline is the icing on the cake!
  12. B10 3.3 Running Report

Got it to 189k before enough was enough. It really needed to be retired from daily duties and set aside as a future classic or 'youngtimer' to allow it to be lavished with more care and attention (and cash!) to get it back to being spot on. There's plenty of life left in it - there's a chap over on the Alpina Register who uses his e46 B3s as his daily and is now well over 300k from new. Hats off to him but the B10 wasn't going to replace my M535i and I only have room for one toy so I chopped it in for the D3. Sent from my SM-J320FN using Tapatalk
  13. B10 3.3 Running Report

Sad to say that the B10 has departed and been replaced by an E90 Alpina D3 BiTurbo. I was genuinely gutted to sell but circumstances demanded a more sensible daily driver. If I could work out how to remove the piccies from my profile I would. I've still got the M535i so will continue to lurk around on here for a long while yet!
  14. M535i stainless exhaust

Probably too late for you evsky if you've already purchased but I had mine done by zero exhausts. Cost about £850 but you get what you pay for. Sound spot on, no drone at motorway speeds unlike the £400 stainless steel system the previous owner had fitted. Apparently 'guaranteed for life' didn't cover the internal baffle only the tubing. When zero took the old one off the baffles had disintegrated. Sent from my SM-J320FN using Tapatalk
  15. Centre Cap Lock Keys

Folks, as per title .... I was down to one key as I managed to snap one in the lock recently but fortunately able to get it out as the cap was off the wheel at the time. Replacements from Alpina are bloomin' expensive so I managed to get two replacements/spares cut by 1st Class Keys. http://1stclasskeys.co.uk/ Excellent customer service and two keys delivered for under a tenner. Chris

  25. Gaydon Bmw Festival 2016 ?

Didn't have the M535i back in time so we took my lad's minty E30 316i. Had a good day as we'd not been to Gaydon for 7 years but it was a bit 'flat - agree with the comments about the club photo taking a lot of the cars away (100!!) during the main part of the day for a good couple of hours. Good to catch up with a few faces though. Ditto some of the suggested shows and would add stuff like Chiltern Hills Rally near Aylesbury in May, various Croxley Green gatherings (I think there's one more this September?), Earls Barton evenings, etc. The regular Sunday Scrambles at Bicester Heritage are well worth a trip especially for the older stuff. Tend to do general shows now as the BMW only ones are a bit 'same old - same old'.
