  1. Having done the same as you in the past I chopped a 530d GT M Sport in for a 640d GC the first thing I noticed was just how quick it was (believe the 0-60 is 5.4secs) and the sound was superb, the 640d if I remember right is a twin turbo giving 313bhp where the F10 530d is 258bhp unless an earlier model.

    Trade in offer?

I paid £30200 for mine and that was a new one, so there are deals out there.

The GT is better to be fair, especially if you have a nice light leather set up and some wood (IMO) the Golf dash is well laid out with a lot of info available if you scroll through everything, switch gear is good don't feel flimsy, you have the various sport instruments you can put up on the info screen similar to the GT ( Turbo boost\G Force and KW) and they can be swopped with other gauges to make a set up you like, leather seats are a option but I'm quite happy with the cloth\alacanta seats which I have found to be comfy, a nice touch is you can select from the touch screen what car set up you want (Like the eco\comfort\sport) the choices are Eco\ Normal\Race and individual which you can select a mix of the race functions with the other set ups, there is also a selection of lap timers you can use, be honest I'm still finding out just what there is on it, I'm 6ft and my seat is back a bit but there is plenty of legroom for any passenger behind me, it's not really fair to compare the 'R' with the 'GT' as they are 2 different cars, there are bits on the trim that you think well that's not BMW standard but on the whole it's a good package. Cheers Steve, yeah it's a lot like that Ford colour.

Thoroughly enjoying it, great fun and very practical as well, went on holiday in it a couple of weeks ago had to ask the wife had she packed everything as I had room to spare (200 litres more than the GT boot space) it likes the fuel, but comparable with my M3 and Porsches I had so not worried about that with a similar performance and it's easy to park lol, I like the touch screen Sat Nav easy to use and you can have the pano roof open on the motorway without that 'thrumming' you got on the GT, yes it is the 6 spd DSG I'm hearing that there might be a 7 spd DSG for next year, it's well finished inside, what I find strange is having to turn a key to start it there is a keyless option though available, brakes are excellent. Some pictures of it, excuse the unglamorous location:

    Upgrading the bulbs on F10

I upgraded my Mini to the Xtremes and it was an improvement over the std bulbs in it, but as E39 said not as good as Xenons,

Nice one Steve, don't look like there were many option boxes left to tick!

Tell me, those waits are awful I had to wait almost a year for my 2003 E46 M3, I ordered it the day I picked up a new E46 330i SE, the wife wasn't very happy....

Yeah I will look at sticking some pics up but it's very 'Q' car looking, front looks good but then its just an estate it's only the 4 exhaust pipes out the back give the game away Sales manager at the dealership said he had just sold one to someone up in Scotland (not you is it?) he also reckons he's sold 30 of them (I was the 30th) but I can't say I have ever seen one (estate that is) on the road.

Well I have done the deal and pick up a brand new Golf R Estate next Tuesday, road noise not at all what I expected and certainly no worse than the GT (on runflats) did well on the trade offer as they cocked up and thought it was the 5 Saloon but he honoured the offer, the test drive was interesting what a sound track sounds more like a V8 when pushed 0-62 in 5.1 secs claimed, trim and switchgear seems to be of good quality and quite a few extras as std and they beat all of the CarWow offers I had had by £1700 and one of them was giving 20% discount, tried to blag some more off but only managed a tank of fuel, will miss the old GT but I never keep cars long.

    Brake service apparently due

    Brake service apparently due

My previous car a 640d told me I had 80k miles left on my front pads........
  14. MickJ

    Brake service apparently due

Had the same thing on mine, said I had 3600 miles to go on the front pads, by a visual I could see at least 10 mm of pad still showing, when I had the car serviced they checked them for me, they measured them at 11mm of brake material left and reset the I-Drive to show 16000 miles to front pad change. I doubt very much that your pads are that worn given the mileage you have stated, as said it is easy enough to do a visual yourself, I used a dentist mirror and a torch.

I simply do not have the time to sit on a car waiting to sell it privately, though I agree with you it would get more, I am a compulsive car buyer if I see something I want I generally have it (the last R estate I looked at I refused a test drive as I knew what would happen) this why I have had 87 cars\motorcycles up to now, I find it easier to hand the car over and drive off in the replacement. The dealer would not be having my car as he is a VW franchise he phoned up a BMW contact who made the offer over the phone based on the info I gave him, so the dealer won't be selling the GT if I go ahead. The Golf 'R' has been discounted by £7k from the new OTR + options price ( I know they are still making a profit unless going for the sales bonus instead)
