    Need Help...Broken M5

Agreed. I firmly believe this car was sold to you in good faith and I don't for one minute think you have been "conned". IMHO you just got unlucky and this can happen to any second hand car you buy regardless of price or condition. You must bear in mind that this is a high performance car that is now getting on for 27 years old and shit is going to fail without warning, fact. Take it on the chin, get it fixed and enjoy

    Titanium E39 2002 530d Manual Sport Touring

So, time to wrap this thread up. Yesterday the car went to it's new owner by way of a car collection service. I gave her one last rinse-off, sorted all the docs and then waved her off last night. A brilliant car and fun 9 years of e39 530d ownership. Genuinely sad to see it go. Cheers, Rob

    DAB Signal Drops Out Constantly

I'll update this thread with anything I find out. If they try to palm me off I'll complain and see where that gets me. I suspect it's a design issue, given that a hell of a lot of people have this issue. I guess as it's not a safety recall BMW put it as a low priority for fix when the F10 was the current model.

Not another angel eye bulb question!

It will be a check control notification, hot and cold monitoring for the bulbs you will change in CAS-LMA and LMA-LMA modules. If your car is LCI one then it should/could be LMA2 module. Check online for the guides, if needed. In pictures bellow I was comparing two trace files, but to you will need to set them to Nicht_active to disable check control error messages.

Not another angel eye bulb question!

I bought something similar but for pre LCI. Although it said canbus error free they were fine as coronas (angel eyes) but the stuff I bought for fog lights gave me an light bulb error. I coded them out and no more error on the dash. Can give you the module name and what you need to code if needed. Regarding the bulb not working I suppose you have the same connectors and they fit in it. Get two spare wires (isolated off course) and then just change the polarity of the wires. If they work use the pliers to cut off the wires and reverse the polarity on the bulb connection side. Worked for me, but in different occasion.

    Need Help...Broken M5

The M5 is a wonderful machine ... But most have seen the rev limiter at some point .... sadly falling into the wrong hands during the 3k days. I have no doubt the former owner saved this M5 from being scrapped with money and love. I feel for you're rotten luck and hope the final cost is not that bad ...

    Behr/ Hella water pump

To be fair ... I'm not keen on Febi parts even the real deal ... We replaced all the suspension links and ball joints with Febi on Stefan's first Pug 106 from GSF. We went for Febi because of their link with Bilstein and their OE status .... The parts lasted just over 12 months total rubbish ( rubber boots were falling apart and ball joints knocking) and that was on a little old 1.1 106. I hate to imagine those on something like the E34

    Behr/ Hella water pump

Good point on parts copies. I learned my lesson a few years ago when I bought "Febi" exhaust mounts for my E30 from Ebay....Thinking they are "OEM" and will last forever, only to find out that they broke less than 1 year later. Nowadays, when I'm buying parts, it's only main dealer, EuroCarParts or Autodoc/SparePartStore24. I'm sure there are good sellers on eBay selling genuine parts, but you've got plenty of choice with the other 3 suppliers, and they are competitive on prices as well, which makes eBay redundant.

    Behr/ Hella water pump

The plastic impeller oe pumps lasted until 120k on our 525 and 117k on our original 540 ... The major point is making sure the pumps are the real deal and not copy's. ..

    Behr/ Hella water pump

If it's a genuine Hella or Behr unit, then whatever it is, just go for it. These are both OEM manufacturers, so if they make plastic impellers nowadays, then that's the best solution. The stories of plastic impellers breaking could be linked to cheap aftermarket water pumps, which would predictably fail early due to cheap design, materials used or other reasons.

To be fair this car has covered, high milege, its been clocked and its had a few owners who havent looked after it before any of these forum guys bought it. Might sound harsh but if you want a mans car, you have to pay the mans bills. M5's get more expensive to run the older they get

Did a few jobs on mine today. Stuck mine on to charge given that its sat about not doing much since the beginning of July. Not got round to a permanent install for my charger so made do with a connection under the bonnet. Routed the cables away from the bonnet catch out to a 230V extension reel. Gave the drivers seat a quick clean with my new Gliptone. I think it needs another going over with a gentle scrubbing brush but it did smarten things up a bit. And yes @SuperDave it does pong a bit! Had a good poke around my boot today looking at how to install a permanent charge point for my Ctek charger and where to route the wires I need to install to fully wire up my 3AC towbar. Installed the Ctek panel comfort indicator in the rear storage bin. and then routed to wires down the existing cable duct to the battery well. I haven't wired it up to the battery yet as I'm going to incorporate the wiring for this with the wiring I need to install to wire up pins 10, 11 and 12 on my towbar. And I found some interesting corrosion on my rear anti roll bar.

    1994 BMW E34 540I - GF22093

Update Twenty Seven 22/8/2018 Another month of faithful service from Boudica.. Not so much from Bilstein mind you , After many phone calls and E-mails we decided to scrap the Bilstein idea and we have purchased a spring and shock absorbers kit from SPAX We purchased the SPAX PSX suspension kit it appeared on eBay unused and in the original box and we got it at a price we thought was reasonable on arrival the kit turned out to be just as described. We also repainted another spare set of front legs to match, The blue ones will be going on The Tea Bag Lady. We have also de-face-lifted Boudica since the last update, We are not lovers of the m plastic side skirts, Not to everyone taste I'm sure but its totally reversible and its something different. We also changed the fuel filters It seems the bottom filter gets more dirtier then the top filter, I'm supersized the difference a fuel filter would make to the driving impression. All For Now Comments Welcome

Jacking it up shouldn't cause a steering angle sensor fail. Its either "an E60" thing or just pure coincidence. I'll wager on the latter. I used to jack up my E60 and power wash the wheels and under the wheel arches a couple of times a year (days before the littl'un) and never had any electrical issues. Well not one that rule #1 above didn't cure! Apparently I had a rare E60 that worked electrically. But I was always religious in switch off all electrical items before turning off (and then therefore before turining it back on) the ignition so there was no load on the battery other than the starter.

They are a bit marked up.. Forget the dremmel. Your more likely to take off too much material. Pistons should all be within 'x' amount grams difference of each other, especially if blueprinting the motor. I would be getting some very very fine paper and gently removing the high spots of any gouges. Don't try to eradicate the marks completely as you'll possibly introduce flat spots to the skirt promoting blow by. The mark on the crown will eventually be covered by carbon so would not worry too much on that one, just tidy it up. If 're-ringing' the pistons, care should be taken in regards to ring gaps which must be spot on... I'd suggest approaching a good engine machine shop/builder for their opinion if at all possible.

Vpower for my lawn mower only, don't want to clog the DPF, only have a back garden, so short journeys only, can't be too careful
