The carphonics stage 2 amp upgrade is great. I had it done on mine last year and the sound quality is appreciably improved. Also had the bluetooth streaming dongle installed which works very well indeed. Curious as to how you managed to get the M5 shocks from ECP!? are you positive these arent for the 540i? never heard of anyone managing to get oem shockers anywhere other than the stealers for a kings ransom. I think you will be happy with the mild brake upgrade, I was looking at a bbk but went for new oem disks, rebuilt calipers, SS lines and DS2500 pads and the brakes are soooo much better. Much improved bite, firmer pedal and huge stopping power, to the point where its very easy to trigger the abs. Great thread this, keep it going!!

Appeal, but also get on the case of the manager of the store and use your receipt as evidence... does it have a time stamp as to when you paid ...? Also hit up their Facebook page and make a complaint - you may even get some vouchers sent your way for the inconvenience ...

Give the window company a call and ask them to sort it, they will often ask you to take it to a dealer and they will settle up. *edit, go through your insurer and they will liaise with the window co in the first instance, then they have it on record.

Can't remember where I read it (probably on here... E60/61 pages) but I think there is a calibration procedure. YouTube is always helpful for such things, but you may need access to something like ISTA (not sure if Carly has the capability)

I suspect your two settings combined will give you music streaming. On the phone, you're telling it to use the streaming protocols with your car. On the car, you're saying the same in reverse. It won't work unless both are enabled, so you're probably onto a winner here! From memory, again depending on your cars options, you have three Bluetooth connection options: Phone, Phone 2 and Audio/Music.

6 or 8 that is the question

In the future thanks to the Westmonster government or the current loonies that purportedly run Scotland, things like V8s will be referred to in the same sentence as steam engines or dodo's. If you have a chance to buy a V8, do so as they will become a rare rare thing. Go for the V8. You may never ever get the chance to own one again!

Go for the HEL ones pal; they're fully stainless and a lot cheaper than Goodridge ones. IMO better made too. I've had a few sets of Goodridge corrode on me, never again. Used HEL since they've been on the market and never any issues Another recommendation would be to go for DOT 5.1, I used Motul brake fluid and it's always been very good

James, thanks for the encouragement, They are defo 100% M5 shocks..working in the trade, i got my guy at Euro Car Parts to check stock. I ensured the OEM part number matched: 31312229612 x2 (front) Sachs PN 556834 33521091922 (rear) Sachs PN 170857 also pretty sure (not certain!) that M5 shocks are silver and aluminium compared to 540i etc which are black and heavier.. I agree, the ds2500 pads will make a massive difference as well as the rebuilt calipers. I need to shop for some SS lines. Hopefully removing the calipers this weekend!

Good to read that! Even though mines only a 530i; I do feel the brakes already are very good. A BBK would have been more for looks IMO and at c£1100, not cheap at all! I am toying with the idea up doing a full brake overhaul again and going for Mtec C hook discs all round with DS2500 pads up front and similar on the rear... Where did you source your DS2500s (I think the 530i and 540i/M5 share the same calipers, don't they, it's just the discs that are different)?

6 or 8 that is the question

Having owned x2 530i E39s and test drove a few V8s too (they were never on the radar to buy as they were dogs, in fairness) I'd go for a 530i or a 540i and no other E39. But that's my personal choice Also the E46s rust worse than the E39 and they're small inside, then again, I not a small human! The 535i sounds great; but I'd still go for a 530i, better steering and drive IMO. If you want it all, then a decent 540i Sport is where to look, but their prices are very much on the up and you need to make sure it's been a well maintained car too I'd not go for a 528i personally, you may as well stick with the 530i, for me, it's just a better engine and all the 528i's I looked at felt dated. However, all the above is dependent upon budget, your location and how impatient you are I'd also keep a budget aside for suspension and cooling system work; neither are cheap and you can sometimes feel like you're chasing your tail sorting them!

They do sound class... The E55 AMG is a car I've been looking at a lot lately; could be a serious contender for me for my next car; if/when I sell my 530i What got me looking into AMGs more yesterday was this: Just the sound does it for me

Got the drivers seat base re-leathered and bolster shape made good. Feels like a new seat again. Not great photos, before and after. Happy with that!

Sold it for less than I wanted though. A few X5 pics from the night I picked it up. Already removed the mudflaps, replaced the rea tyres and painted the chrome window surrounds.

    Carbon Black ///M5

Update: I have started to concentrate on the exterior / chassis I managed to secure the last remaining stock of the E39 M5 SACHS shock absorbers via EuroCarParts. These are OEM (M5 are silver painted shocks) and unbelievably lightweight! so much so that I had to open the boxes to make sure they had the shocks inside! they are made of aluminium. Also got ATE front/rear discs (OEM again) and Ferodo DS2500 pads. I have been wanting a M5 for 15 years or so - i have been planning the restoration in my head for years!! I know the E39 M5 ring taxi was totally OEM apart from ducting and aftermarket brake pads. If that setup was good enough for the ring taxi then I am sure it will be fine for me!! For anyone wondering why I did not go aftermarket (Bilstein Shocks / coilovers), the main reason is because so many E39 M5 owners regret changing from OEM to aftermarket as the car does not handle as good as OEM. Another point to consider is that the car is 15 years + old... replacing the suspension will be a night / day difference! I am removing the calipers and sending them away for a refurb (possibly painting them BMW Performance blue) and refurbishing the alloys in the original shadow chrome finish...

    ADIEU - SUBARU!

Come on, they are easy to beat off the lights or leave for dead when, ahem, cough, pressing on, on the motorway. Could you cane an E46 M3? That's the real question!

Another minor update: I went to see Baris / CarPhonics over the weekend.. I went for the stage 2 BM54 and converted my analogue TV tuner to digital. The stage 2 BM54 is well worth doing! the sound difference is phenomenal! The freeview reception is spot on! only lost reception a few times during a 45 min drive. I have my M Audio Sub Woofers in transit from the states, I am hoping to amp them up as thats what everyone suggests on M5board...

Had my front screen replaced by autoglass due to a crack caused by a flying stone in April. I have just noticed that when the light switch is in 'auto light' switch position, the lights are almost on all the time in daytime. Also the rain sensor for the wiper no longer seems to be adjustable for sensitivity. I have not checked the auto dimming function yet. Anyone had a similar problem?. I presume the car software would have had to be updated after the new screen was fitted for calibration purposes??
