    New Grill Fitted

Just swapped over my standard all chrome grill for one of the Gloss double slot all Black ones. Now I read plenty that removing the existing grills is a 2 min job .. just grip them and pull firmly out !! That was not my case .. took ages to get them out .. one of the vins actually cracked I was pulling so hard .. in the end I had to hack saw them out. Anyway photos .. the new grill was £37 from eBay and fitted like a glove.

    New G31 Ordered!

Hi all, A newbie joiner, and have been using the forum for a while to keep-up-to-date on the new 5 series and finally pulled the trigger. I currently own the BMW 5 Series F11 LCI and have been waiting for the new car to upgrade. I've spent a lot of time researching, using the forums and online reviews to create my ideal spec. The one battle I've had is the colour/interior options and combinations, perhaps too conservative in my opinion, it would nice if they offered some other variations. I originally planned to purchase a Carbon Black car, but other than white interior (not good with young kids) you really have no options - tempted by the brown but just not the right contrast/combination. I did like the Cognac brown Leather seats, but really disliked the contrasting orange plastics on the rear of the seat and lower dashboard - what do other people think of the options available? Love the car though, the upgrades are subtle but a leap forward for me in regards to Technology. Looking forward to the HUD and night driving with the Icon Adaptive Lights. So interior choice made (safe) - all ordered and currently assigned its build slot, planning to collect on the 1st March for the new 2018 plate. Specification: - 530d M Sport Touring - Bluestone - Black Dakota with Exclusive Stitch - Poplar Grain Grey Trim - 20" BMW V Spoke 759 - Panoramic Sunroof - M Sport Plus Package (Privacy Glass, Harman Kardon Speakers) - Visibility Package (ICON LED Adaptive Lights, Light washers, Auto High Beam) - Technology Package (Head-up Display, Gesture Control, Display Key, Enhanced Bluetooth, Wireless Charging, Wi-fi hotspot) - Heated Steering wheel - Sunblinds rear - Lumbar Support - Active Cruise Control 'stop/go' - Remote Services - Apple CarPlay Looking forward to March 1st... counting down the day

Been running around today getting a lot sorted; collecting the turkey and goose Sat morning (turkey for Christmas Day, goose for Boxing Day 'cold cuts') Gravy, pork & sage and sage & onion stuffings made today, both now in the freezer and x2 christmas puddings (one whisky based, the other brandy) done a few weeks back and sitting nice and cool under the stairs TBH I love it; love cooking anyways (someone has to feed me ) and love the family get togethers (we're together Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 28th Dec (extended family gathering), New Years Eve, New Years Day, 2nd and 13th Jan, the latter 2 are birthdays) Just been to Waitrose to pick up the last few bits and loads of various pickles for Boxing Day (TBH I prefer the food on Boxing Day as I do to Christmas Day)! So, all done now... Just need to get a few bits done around the house then it's beer o'clock!

Sounds bloody brilliant to me! Love spanish/catalan food Love veggies too; I try and grow as much as possible! We'll be on home grown cavolo nero, sprouts, parsnips, carrots and swede (mashed, of course) and scorzonera (an old English root veg). It'll be roast root veg (spuds, parsnips and carrots) and sprouts will go into roast for the last 30mins (they roast superbly and take on a superb, nutty flavour). Well worth trying We're on Kedgeree for Christmas Day brekkie

What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

I just washed it. Not been done since pre-winter wash and wax (BH DSW) back in early October. Absolutely minging! Even though I started with a pressure wash then snow foam, the rinse bucket was black within a couple of panels!

Me too, nothing better than to see people enjoy their food, makes it all worth the effort. I'm going to do roast duck for Christmas Day, crunchy roast potatoes, and plenty of veggies, my kids love veggies.... even sprouts (fry bacon pieces in olive oil with garlic, chuck the sprouts in fry for a minute, then add a little water steam for no more than 5 mins). We'll be also celebrating Christmas Eve (Spanish/Polish influences), Langoustines in garlic sauce, morcilla (spanish black pudding) with fried quails eggs on baguette slices, breaded pork loins (super tender mini-schnitzels) Oh... and I'll make churros for breakfast on Christmas day...

How Long Have You Owned Your E39?

Bought my 2.2 SE new in March 2001, built to my spec; so 16 years 9 months and 138k miles. I am very fond of her but she has cost me a bomb recently. Going to have the shocks replaced in the new year. If not delighted with the result that's the last I'm spending! I think I'll go for a VW passat next time

    What's being worked on today?

Big news! We can now remap the Fxx shape cars through the OBD port! No more intrusion to the ECU! Even the F10 M5 can be programmed this way. Returning to stock is not an issue should the car have to go into the dealer, and even if the car still has a warranty, an optional CVN fix will ensure that at present the tuning is not detectable by dealer software. Supported engine codes: N13, N20, B47, N47, N55, S55, N57, N63TU, S63TU (excludes: B48 and B58).

As above, OEM wipers. Not much more than buying Bosch ones from Halfords either.

Hi, I tried couple of different options and at the went for OEM and no regrets! They are quieter than everything else but more expensive! My choice is OEM.

    Short break ideas....

Montreux, Switzerland. Fly to Geneva from Liverpool, takes an hour and a half. Then get the train from Geneva airport to Montreux - it's literally walk up the escalator, walk towards the exit and the train station is on the right inside the airport. That takes about an hour but runs the whole length of lake Geneva. Worth it just for looking out the window. The Royal Plaza hotel on the edge of the lake has brilliant views of the French alps over the other side of the lake if you can get a lake view room (worth specifying). That's like my go-to place for a long weekend away. Loads of good restaurants, mountains to go up (hike or train etc). Definitely worth a look! Being Switzerland it isn't the cheapest of places to visit, but you should comfortably be able to do it under the budget. Flghts are relatively cheap too. It's without a doubt one of the nicest places I've ever been to. A lovely place to just chill and unwind. Everyone is friendly, great views, and it doesn't get a huge amount of UK visitors. If you want to splash out on her for her birthday from memory it's called the Suisse Majestic hotel - massive glass windows looking at the Alps. Really good food if you want to splash out (as in, I took my girlfriend for her birthday, and it was about £300 without drinking much - eyes watered a bit) but the view is worth it even if you just go in for a drink.

    Size matters! F10 v E39

I surprised my father in law who had a Caviler at the same time I had my Senator. We were out in my car and he said, you'll never do a U turn in that gap, watch this I said, full lock, not restricted by horrible driveshafts, nae bother. He said he wouldn't have got his Caviler turned in that space. Noticed it in the E60 and F10 that the turning circle was not as good as the Sennie. Put that down to the much bigger wheels on the newer cars. I parked my E60 (which I thought was big) next to my neighbours Audi A8, the A8 totally dwarfed my E60. Having another look at your first pic Mark and its really obvious how much bigger the F10 is compared to the E39. Look at how tiny the kidney grills are on the E39!

This is mine up against the father in laws: Not exactly side by side, but the F10 does look bigger/boxier I still stand by that mine is comfier inside and feels much more put together... But opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one

    E39 restoration project.

Hi all, small update from me on the E39 - some pictures below of the full detail I carried out a few weeks back. It made such a improvement to how it looked. I have also replaced the alternator due to the battery warning light coming on. Lastly I managed to install a aux input to my C53 cassette radio. After spending hours researching if this was possible, everyone on various forums said I would not be able to get an aux input to work on the C53 unit. But they were all wrong. So I purchased a standard aux lead for a E39 & removed the radio, I got a wiring diagram up for the CD changer & looked at what wiring done what. I soon realised that the CD changer just used a earth & L/R inputs. I then noticed the aux lead had the same 3 wires. So I removed the wires from the plug on the CD changer & did the same on the aux lead. I then put the aux lead wires in the correct pin holes & fitted it all back up. Fired up the radio and result, a fully working aux lead on a C53 cassette deck. Thats all for now.
