    Most reliable engine is M57 3L ?

You're just a fountain of utter shite arnt you? So going by that ludicrous statement, every car that is six years old is running a new engine? First off you said petrol is a con and now engines don't last past 5 years!!!! What a tosser! You're lucky I'm not drinking tonight as the torrent of abuse you would of got from me would of left you crying curled up in a ball on the floor whilst in a puddle of your own feces..... God damn it! It's people like you that turn me to alcoholism......

Thanks bmwmike that makes me feel much better and will stop flapping! I’ve been so impressed with this car so far - night and day difference from the 520D manual E60 that I had before. The fuel economy isn’t that bad either which is good as I may have applied significant man maths to slip the upgrade past my wife!

Making up wiring looms - trailer

I did a similar project on a friends trailer few years ago, we fitted resistors in aluminium electronics project box (lots of diferent sizes on ebay) and sealed it with rtv silicone. We attached resistors along the bottom of the box so it acts as a heat sink and attached box at the front of the trailer. Cable goes in the box and much thinner cables are going from box to led lights.

    Performance air filter

Oem filter is folded paper plus a foam pad and is only changed at 50k! That implies some serious cleaning/suction required ? You'd wonder if there wasnt a little spool time increase as a result. On the flipside MAF contamination is a concern from an oiled filter BUT given the shit that comes back into the manifold via an EGR valve i dont believe a bit more dust getting through would be too much of an issue...? I'm keen to try a k&n, my old a4 tdi ran to 160k miles on one and was super healthy-just sprayed the maf with electrical cleaner once in a while. Is the potential cost of maf damage worth a minute reduction in lag, probably not for me!

Mashed Potatoes Is A ECU Map Guru

Hi All I just want to share my latest experience iv'e had with a fellow forum member Mashed Potatoes, going back to a thread i started a few days ago with regards to sharing ECU map's(sorry admins didnt mean to break any rules). Mashed Potatoes contacted me to inform me my Stage 1 EGR/DPF map was a bit of a mess and a "poor, chaotic tuned file". This map file had been tuned from my standard ecu file, the first tuner upgraded it to a stage 1 with a full EGR delete, a couple of months later i removed the DPF and sent my custom map file off to a different tuner for some tweeks and to take of the DPF. Mashed Potatoes offered to redo my map file properly and upped the BHP to approx 300, it also picks up so much better, he has also deleted the EGR and DPF the right way with no error codes. My first drive out i was simply astonished at how much more power and torque this is now pushing out, the difference between my old map and his new map is night and day. So if you have had a custom map done previously and have any doubts about it or fancy a substantial power and torque increase from your factory standard car drop him a message and see what he can do for you, i know you wont be disappointed Thank you very much Mashed Potatoes i grin from ear to ear every time i touch the accelerator.

Talking of Hitler and MPG references, we all know the single most potent, conversation-redirecting, controversial question to ask on ANY car forum: Which is the best oil for my car? *duck and cover*

What's that internet law where every conversation eventually mentions hitler? There seems to be a similar one on car forums where every single thread very rapidly descends into MPG's.

BMW F10 535d warning oil to high

Good, you would smell the Diesel straight away. Sounds like you need the software upgrade. Watch out for the service intervals on your idrive suddenly changing to show it needs a service of any item suddenly much sooner than it did recently as that's another sign it needs a software update. Assuming your engine is warm in your picture. The absolute max level is actually the notch above the 'X' in MAX. I would assume that a high oil level warning would be if the oil is far higher than that notch. Your oil level is fine and you need not concern yourself with it and just put it down to the box of wizardry having thrown ted and blanket out the pram.

Solidarity to the fellow straight six naspers, end of an era really isn’t it? (big prt of my reason for buying funnily enough) I bought approved used and got an extra year’s warranty extension included so I’ll be way over 60k by the time that expires (on 55k and do circa 20-25k a year and yes I probably should have bought a 530d) - I had a pretty good experience with warranty direct stumping up for a turbo on the 520D so may well end up with them when it comes round to keep things affordable. Will check the quality enhancement has been done, presumably should have been picked up through approved used checks but worth a quick call.

No problem! There are not many of us six pot nasp owners around so we need to stick together If your car is sub 60k miles and FSH i would recommend the mondial warranty. The n53 is a good engine but does have the ability to throw some large bills - namely the injectors and less likely, the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP). Also worth calling bmw and checking the 2013 quality enhancement for coilpacks was carried out on your car.

Mine is around the same, 5-6000 miles to use 1l of oil. Seems to be normal for BMW petrol engines.

Yes it's insurance backed: arranged by MB&G and underwritten by UK General Insurance. I can't find a link on their website but my local Lloyds dealership is Colne, tel 01282 720 720.

    Finding VIN numbers online

QED https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Login/Index The problem here and across the myriad of other forums asking the same question is as soon as any link is posted the usage flies up and it gets modified to remove the functionality so everyone loses. Anyone posting such links is a prat to put it bluntly! Yes there are sites out there, 5 minutes of googling found one yesterday and that is the emphasis here, people need to make the effort and go and find them themselves. Many of the spoon fed community will not bother which is a good thing because the benefit to those of us that make the effort is the site remains available a little bit longer. Your mate needs to make a bit of effort and look, and if he does not have the skill set to use a search engine then what is wrong with spending a quid or two getting an HPI check done on a potential vehicle which will also provide the Vin or even asking the seller for it? I appreciate this sounds selfish but that is a reality of cyberlife today.

    Very odd service history

So - I finally managed to get a reply from Cooper Reading. I had asked for further detail about my car's visits there, hoping to get mileage at each visit, and a couple of dealer window stickers, all of which I offered to pay for. This is the response I got : "We do not have any service history on our system for this vehicle. Our systems changed a long time ago probably around the late 90’s and if there was any service history listed, I’m pretty certain it would have been lost. Regardless we cannot supply any information on service history. Also our sales admin team do not keep the window stickers neither. Unfortunately as times change our marketing team stopped supplying window stickers on cars. Sorry it’s not the reply you would have wanted but in this case we cannot help. Best regards" I guess that'll be the end of that then!
