Anyone going to Goodwood Festival of Speed this year? Just booked our tickets for the saturday, 5 tickets and just over £330 later!! But screw the cost, it's an epic day and beats most, if not all of the major car fests. Plus it's not every day you get to rub shoulders with famous faces. Keep an eye on the field for my 5 Jam

    E39 535 '97. First BMW and 10/10

Bought my first E39 on wednesday, it needs A LOT of work which Im hoping I can search for a lot of answers on here. Its a 1997 535 auto. I wasnt really looking for one but the V8 had me! Drove it up to Liverpool on Sunday and the engine and gearbox performed really well. Just a few issues and something I didnt expect is that it revs to 8k RPM!!!! Sounds amazing but I'd hate to bounce a valve off a piston at that rpm. Anyway, hope the picture loads and I'm in love with it despite it being a bit neglected. As I said, its got a fair few issues but it seems to run ok for 170k mile car.

Do fastLane dismantle the old exhaust / system so you can take it home with you?

    Steering wheel wobble

I've had this same problem twice, and I could tell which side it was coming from, on both occasions it was the the lower control arms.

    New oil and filter time...

Yeah Mann or Hengst for OEM filters. On my E60, the oil filter housing had Hengst mounded into the plastic. Sounds about right for the price of the filter. For £20 Labour it hardly seems worth doing it yourself. It would have 'cost' me that in time by the time it took me to drive mine up on the ramps and get the necessary tools out. But you get to cover yourself in muck and used engine oil and generally my dad helps me out so it's always good to catch up with him while working on my cars.

    You ba$t@rd...

My favourite: Half fill a mug with equal quantities of Stones or Crabbies Ginger Wine and elderflower wine. Add juice of ½ a lemon and a good dollop of proper honey. Nuke in microwave to boiling or near enough. Stir then add as good a tot of whisky or whiskey as you like then top up with boiling water Go to bed and drink it. Best not drive eh? There are lots of mobile smart repair companies that specialise in this, going through your insurance will just cost you more in the long run

Back on the tools tonight, TCA's done yesterday so moved on to the brakes, new lines, discs and TRW pads and even got some time to take the kids crab fishing.

    New oil and filter time...

Used Mann filters loads over the years. Never an issue but with eBay beware as there's loads of fake stuff around so make sure you only buy from a reputable seller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New 5 series

Should read continuing as there were x drive 5 series in all E and F cars since the E34 - they were just not brought into the UK.

    New 5 series

That should read "Reintroduced" as the E34 525iX was the first 5 Series with 4wd, one of which, built June 1992, is sitting outside my house! Nice to see the G30 finally catching up with the E34 range.

Or maybe it's that he doesn't care because George Galloway is a lunatic and a liar whom nobody with half a brain takes seriously, as well as being no stranger to warmongering dictators himself?

Considering you could buy a good used door from ebay for less than a 100 would it make more sense to just swap it out?

    Brakes advice

If you haven't seen them have a search for the posts by 535iar as he has included links with excellent 'how to' instructions for these jobs. I've stuck with BMW pads and discs all round on mine. Plenty of alternative makes out there but I wanted to ensure that they fitted first time around, that they don't squeal, and that they stop you as BMW intended. Brake fluid = every 2 years. M62 timing chain guides

Purely codes and no it will do no harm running engine, i certainly wouldnt drive it with a misfire longterm tho as that will cause further damage but thats only if you just ignore the problem and kept driveing as per normal.

It's amazing, trust me. It's like every car manufacturer, take all their best equipment, prototypes and all and throw it all into a field. Top of the hill you've the rally stages with proper rally cars and drivers. You've the goodwood track which they take all the cars round on, even some of the prototypes! Honda had a bloody Ferris wheel the last time i went..like a full size ride! Also if it's anything like last time I went, take your BMW key. Gets you into the BMW Hospitality Area. Also as a note, take a picnic and some comfy shoes. Lots of walking and the food prices are ridiculous! Jamie Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
