    B10 4.6 755 moves !!

As I am unable to drive charming B.10 has sat under its car port since January, not ignored but dusty etc !! The Audi returned from some work as its the daily tredder re hospital runs etc for the future. So when the mechanics delivered the Audi I asked for the Alpina to be run around the block. Careful ignition key activity enabled rotation before firing up on four occasions re oil circulation to valve gear etc. So gentle start and it ran fine, 10 minute warm up and then out of its prison, screens washed off, lights, indicators tested ok, gearbox warmed up and tested re drive, reverse etc. So off she goes, purring away like the fine car it is - chuffed that careful storage and use just needed good brake discs clean off. Lovely car now happy as it had a run, promise it a good clean once feeling bit better - still say its best car I have every owned. k

    Goodwood FOS

Anyone going to Goodwood Festival of Speed this year? Just booked our tickets for the saturday, 5 tickets and just over £330 later!! But screw the cost, it's an epic day and beats most, if not all of the major car fests. Plus it's not every day you get to rub shoulders with famous faces. Keep an eye on the field for my 5 Jam

    E39 535 '97. First BMW and 10/10

Bought my first E39 on wednesday, it needs A LOT of work which Im hoping I can search for a lot of answers on here. Its a 1997 535 auto. I wasnt really looking for one but the V8 had me! Drove it up to Liverpool on Sunday and the engine and gearbox performed really well. Just a few issues and something I didnt expect is that it revs to 8k RPM!!!! Sounds amazing but I'd hate to bounce a valve off a piston at that rpm. Anyway, hope the picture loads and I'm in love with it despite it being a bit neglected. As I said, its got a fair few issues but it seems to run ok for 170k mile car.

I just got a price for the surround trims, £157 each plus the VAT. If yours are ok, great, if not, I would go through insurance. Otherwise you are looking at a big, big bill for replacing it. Prices are: 51318117457 - £157.04 + VAT – GERMANY – 51318117458 - £157.04 + VAT – UK STOCK – 51311908645 - £21.05 + VAT – UK STOCK – 51311948155 - £7.50 + VAT – UK STOCK –

    E39 '97 525TDS correct Code Reader?

Hi, I too read the same information and have 12v at 15 on my 523i a of '97 but decided to bite the bullet anyway and I have no problems entering every interface of my car through USB via inpa and dis (have not tried anything else but am going to have a go at coding soon I think) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine was a London car with 63k when I got it in Jan, last week I replaced the glow controller and all 6 glow plugs, which involved removing the inlet manifold and it was really clogged up. I filled it with throttle body cleaner, which made very little difference, so I scraped as much out as I could and left it in my parts washer while I changed the glow plugs. A LOT came out ! Ah ok, i purchased my car from London with 55k on the clock so it may be something i get in the future also. I presume the £100 labour is the more straight forward route instead of trying the latest carbon cleaning mobile services for around the same cost.

Did you leave the diffuser strock colour Mick or have it painted?
  24. 1 point
I have also used it on older model e39s with no issues but you will need NCS to code the kombi as well as bmwscanner to correct mileage and vin.

Well that's what I was thinking. Changing a door is a fairly straight forward process tbh, but fair enough mate

I use PA Soft on a '99 model with round plug using an adapter cable. It reads all modules - I've coded the LCM but not EWS or IKE but I can't see why it wouldn't.

Cheers for all the info guys, i just need to get booked up now. Still not sure to go for the M5 style difuser or this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-5-SERIES-F10-F11-QUAD-REAR-DIFFUSER-M-SPORT-BUMPER-SPLITTER-VALANCE-BODYKIT-/292004474042?hash=item43fcd2acba:g:7eYAAOSwcwhVOSMm

Unless you dropped on one the same colour...

If you have no luck with those I'd recommend EBC Red Stuff. They need a couple of stops to get some heat in them, but I'm using them along with Mtec C hook discs and HEL braided lines. It stops FAR better than it did with the standard stuff on it.

    New oil and filter time...

Yeah Mann or Hengst for OEM filters. On my E60, the oil filter housing had Hengst mounded into the plastic. Sounds about right for the price of the filter. For £20 Labour it hardly seems worth doing it yourself. It would have 'cost' me that in time by the time it took me to drive mine up on the ramps and get the necessary tools out. But you get to cover yourself in muck and used engine oil and generally my dad helps me out so it's always good to catch up with him while working on my cars.

    You ba$t@rd...

My favourite: Half fill a mug with equal quantities of Stones or Crabbies Ginger Wine and elderflower wine. Add juice of ½ a lemon and a good dollop of proper honey. Nuke in microwave to boiling or near enough. Stir then add as good a tot of whisky or whiskey as you like then top up with boiling water Go to bed and drink it. Best not drive eh? New 5 series

That should read "Reintroduced" as the E34 525iX was the first 5 Series with 4wd, one of which, built June 1992, is sitting outside my house! Nice to see the G30 finally catching up with the E34 range.

    Diesel car values.

^^^this is what I mean. Current owners will either hold out to see what happens or crap themselves and sell at any price. Potential buyers are almost certainly going to postpone buying a diesel or will play safe and buy a petrol. I can't see how any of this isn't going to affect residuals in a negative way. It definitely won't help them stay up anyway.

    Brakes advice

If you haven't seen them have a search for the posts by 535iar as he has included links with excellent 'how to' instructions for these jobs. I've stuck with BMW pads and discs all round on mine. Plenty of alternative makes out there but I wanted to ensure that they fitted first time around, that they don't squeal, and that they stop you as BMW intended. Brake fluid = every 2 years. It's amazing, trust me. It's like every car manufacturer, take all their best equipment, prototypes and all and throw it all into a field. Top of the hill you've the rally stages with proper rally cars and drivers. You've the goodwood track which they take all the cars round on, even some of the prototypes! Honda had a bloody Ferris wheel the last time i went..like a full size ride! Also if it's anything like last time I went, take your BMW key. Gets you into the BMW Hospitality Area. Also as a note, take a picnic and some comfy shoes. Lots of walking and the food prices are ridiculous! Jamie Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
